we had an arcade in my family's pizza shop back in the early-mid eighties. I can remember the shock those pinball machines would give you when you would hold the plunger for too long if you were still wet from coming right off the beach. good times.
we used to keep milk crates next to the games for kids that were too little to see the screen....I knocked my lil brothers front teeth out by kicking the milk crate out from under him while he was playing lol. I forgot about all this shit pretty much until right now
I wasn't born yet.
Fucking Art Cater
spent many quarters in the local arcade another way to socialize with other kids that is long gone
Yep... that was my scene.
Everybody waited in line and put their quarters up to play asteroids but this one guy had all the records,,he would kill all the rocks and send pain to all the little space ships that attacked him
He could play for an hour with one quarter
I guess I was to busy playing guitar and fucking chicks to be cool in '82
I remember putting quarters on the game to mark you were next to play. Good times.
I played some pinball as a kid but, I never got into the other arcade games.
I think I played asteroids once or twice and maybe centipede a few times but, that's it.
Still have this somewhere in my parents basement.
Does that count?
Used to bag school and play this for hours, back when a pack of smokes was .50¢ and a slice was $1.
I was still in my dad's nuts. I'm sure he was probably pretty cool though.
I lived in fucking Clackamas Oregon at the time. There was an arcade in a nearby shithole and the thing that really stands out to me is a particularly delinquent and, it turned out, dangerous kid I knew said "damn....dude you just got some fucking PUSSY" when we were watching some local dirthead play Asteroids or whatever. That was my first scent of female, as it were. I left Clackamas when I was 15 and now kinda regret it as I was just getting into punk rock and MIGHT have hooked up with the Cole's if I'd stayed. Really for the best though. Real dump...at the time.
NEVER BEEN COOL
"They say you learn a lot from losing.....I should try sometime."
I remember losing five dollars in an arcade as like a ten year old in 1978 dollars which to me was a shitload of money
First lesson in my life about how bad losing money hurts. I was hooked though I loved the arcade. I remember getting my mom to drive to some god forsaken mall in Conneticut because they had a new video game like dragon liar or something and me and my friends had to go play. The downside was we usually had to shop for cloths which sucked
Arcades were awesome and I miss them to this day. The arcades today suck. Everything pays a ticket for prizes. Every game is 1-2 dollars.
They suck, plus the old basic games are still the best
A great movie is a fistful of quarters or the king of Kong. Two great movies for arcade lovers.
Pissed away most of my allowance on these back in the day.
