I am watching the recap about the Badger children who perished in that tragic fire in Stamford CT on Christmas morning, and am touched by the sadness of the situation. How touching that the firemen who tried desperately to save the family were there to pay their respects, my being friends with several firefighters know how difficult it is for them when something like this happens. My heart goes out to the mother and father left behind. May these three children and their grandparents rest in peace. What a shame.

I can't believe how stupid people can be in the name of being clean. They cleaned up the fireplace and put the burning embers in a paper bag on the porch leaning up against the house. It is called a fire place for a reason. mad

I'm glad you said it, Yucko. I have strong feelings about this tragedy. I should probably just keep my big mouth shut. As to not appear insensitive, and all that.

I don't think it is insensitive to express frustration over such a preventable incident. Tragedy.

They did it because the children asked to have the ashes removed so that Santa would be able to come down the chimney, silly I know, but they are children, and the grand parents meant well I am sure. The ashes only flared up because it was windy night. Hindsight is 20/20.

Yes, because her daughter's expressed concern that Santa might not be able to get down the chimney. God forbid you shouldn't move heaven and earth to cave into your child's every whim. By all means, yes! Have your boyfriend take hot smoldering ashes out of a safe place, (the fireplace) and put them in a bag in the walkway in a 120 year old house! That's a great idea!

The ashes flared up because they weren't in a safe place, like a fireplace. Not to mention, no one, not the hot boyfriend at 3 am or this mother, thought to do something as simple as throwing water on the ashes.

As I said hindsight is 20/20, though that is my sentiment exactly, my not being a parent I am not qualified to say, but I agree that given the fact that it was Christmas eve and I am sure the grand parents wanted to make it as special as possible for the kids obliged. The results were obviously tragic.
