The usual suspects are all out - stones, Beatles, who, Zeppelin, dead, etc. When I first asked this question in the 80s, the answers were CCR and the kinks. But tom fogerty died in 88 and Wikipedia tells me the kinks bassist on you really got me and all of that croaked in the 90s I believe.

So what's the answer? Up until a couple of months ago you could make the case for the Eagles. Van halen? They didn't start till the 70s. I don't count the Dave Clark five or any of that shit, but that might be a look in the right direction. Aerosmith? Can't we do better than that?

So what say you, shed racists/gun nuts?

So we're stuck in the 70s? No sixties bands want to represent?

The question was original, not integral. And since we're far into the future it is implied that garbage time doesn't count. Nobody cares if some decrepit fuck croaks in 2013.

Grand Funk is neck and neck with Sabbath, but something tells me we can do better (and I say that as a uge GFR fan)

Jack Bruce, garbage time. Question implies back when it mattered. Floyd makes a case on a technicality
