For me it's the Kennedy assassination and 9/11. I've been watching some incredible shows on the Military Channel tonight about the Kennedy Secret Service agents; I still get chills when I see the Zapruder film, and it's incredible to see such stoic SS guys get emotional when they recall what happened that day (they still blame themselves). I was just a little kid, but I'll never forget all the adults crying (starting with the nuns at school, who sent us home--unheard of!) and the neverending reporting on TV. And they stopped all music on the radio for about a week; imagine that today! I was in NYC on 9/11, 'nuff said. Can't help but wonder what our world would be like now had Kennedy lived and 9/11 never happened.
