howard stern threw his career away. It's toast. We all know this...

The question is... What happened? This thread is here to propose theories as to what caused such a huge fall from grace... Not to be limited, it can cover as much or as little as you want... Have a theory about something he did over the past 15 years you wanna get out there, go for it.

One theory is that Sirius was a planned heist. Howard and Mel colluded to steal millions. With Mel in a huge position of power and Sirius desperate, howard was able to negotiate a huge salary and tons of leverage.

You can argue that he never intended for Sirius to work.... That his sole intention was to find a way to make sirius broadcast the tapes 24/7 as a syndicated means of retirement. The tapes would take over as howard slipped out the back door with the money...

Another theory is that howard truly wanted it to work, but insisted on being the boss. Howard is tremendously untalented at anything other than. Being the guy that leads the toilet humor brigade... The problem was: howard needs someone to tell him what to do... He needs direction. Like an actor turned director, howard failed miserably.

Having not been such a failure before, Howard said fuck it... And rode it for what it's worth.

Biggest clue for this? Selling his shares for pennies in the dollar because he had no faith in the company and relinquished all equity

He got old, plain and simple
His testosterone and anger aren't half what they were four years ago and when he got married to a fame whore wife he really put it in low drive for fear of pissing off a potential "a" list friend or opportunity

The Howard today is a shell of the show I feel in love with in the nineties. Totally sad

    Nothing happened to him.

He played a role. Acted like an everyman that hated celebrity and bullshit and gained our respect and admiration. He was good at what he did.

But the thing was - he grew up fairly wealthy in an expensive city with well to do parents. He always had money. He always loved celebrity.

Now that he is older, he figures he must have Hollywood's ear and respect - but he really doesn't. He is a haggard old has been that peaked twenty years ago.

And now his fans are tired of him.

He used to mock everything because he was projecting - he has become everything he ever mocked. That will be his legacy. Certainly not - 'rebel, rebel'.

    Can you clarify this statement?

Howard signed with Sirius several months prior to Mel becoming the CEO. Mel was still at CBS.

I don't begrudge Howard his money.

But, right after he signed the second contract, everything changed. Something happened during those negotiatons that caused Howard to "take his ball and go home"

Ending the show at 10:00am on nose or as close as possible. All news spontaneity like in past was gone

All spontaneity gone whatsoever. Show became rigid in performance with same things at same time every day. Almost as if a Howard Stern template was followed

Signicantly more commercial breaks and significantly more in show blatant product placement which he barely pretends to hide

He took the AGT job. Why? Even Howard must know it's a lame uncool show. It's far from "hip" as possible.

    It's that second contract.

    Yeah....about all of that.

Very few ever seem to wonder.
...and even fewer ever seem to ask.

    Follow the related financials.

    He retired.
    ...without actually retiring.

    His main interests were/are elsewhere.

Calling it in..is not a calling.
Simply showing up...is not a show.
    Delivery..was chosen over delivering.
