Heard on the news that power is still out after 11 days, and that the Mayor will not let homeless shelters accept food because it has not been checked for sodium & fat content. Is this true? What is going on out there?

that article was printed in April. they resurrected it for something new to publish, although our mayor is a dictatorial asshole. he's always been that way.

Most of us escaped unscathed; just a little inconvenienced.

But I have a friend who lost everything: 2 cars and their business (a restaurant) to flooding, and their house was flooded AND looted.

And others who are still without power.

Depending on where you live in NYC you could either be fine (particularly above 39th street or so) or absolutely devastated (Staten Island, parts of Long Island, Brooklyn, and Queens.

It's sad how nobody even notice how fucked staten island was until about 2 days later

Emergency crews help one of the workers burned in a Midtown restaurant fire Friday.
A fire erupted at a Midtown sushi restaurant last night after a worker haphazardly carried gasoline in soy sauce containers, sources said.
“I was pouring a round of Jack Daniels,” said ENO restaurant bartender Adele Mackenzie. “The next thing I know the bus boy was on fire.”
Mackenzie said that 10 Upstate New York tree trimmers who were in town for hurricane Sandy relief efforts and who happened to be eating at ENO, tackled the busboy to put out the flames.

In addition to the busboy, the chef and a server were also burned in the 10 p.m. blaze. The three workers were taken to Cornell Burn Center for 1st and 2nd degree burns, according to witnesses and fire officials .
Sources said the fire started as a worker carried two 5-gallon sauce containers filled with gasoline from the basement into the kitchen. Somehow, the fuel spilled on the kitchen floor and ignited, according to Deputy Chief Thomas McKavanagh.

 Unbelievable. Maybe not much is being reported. I had heard of people eating out of dumpsters, etc., and yet the mayor would not someone donate bagels because they had not been checked. This is crazy stuff.

Glad you are OK. Sorry about your friend. If there had been a Republican president or mayor, the press would not have allowed the no power thing to go on this long.

    Q: what's happening in ny/nj?

A: millions of people eating out of dumpsters, with no electricity and thousands without homes (due to fire). Plus, one, overaged affirmative action housewife not content with her 15-chimneyed mansion or $1billion dollar husband roaming the countryside snapping useless photos for her husband to photoshop and post to twitter in a vain attempt at diverting the attention to herself. And one gay geriatric balding pelican wondering why his flock flew south for the winter without him.

My uncle who is NYPD was in the far rockaways which got devastated by flooding.

One part was cracking beers with their neighbors, removing brush and shit, generally helping each other out.

The shitty side of town was asking what they could get from FEMA.

    You decide which is which.

A republican president would have chased the storms away with his magic underwear.

Obama wants the peasants on trains and buses.
He loves that the peasants are scrounging for gas.
