I'ma check one out of Netflix
I've never seen one episode of any of them
i read this a couple of weeks ago
they compare the William shatner version with next generation.
here they contrast similar characters in both versions
from the comments, seems people prefer the original a bit more, though it may just be nostalgia or snobbery (people seem to always champion the original, even if it is inferior ).
You are lucky in that I am somewhat of a Star Trek Nerd.
The original series is kind of long in the tooth. I don't want you to get distracted by some of the "future" stuff that is really old fashion now.
The next Generation is probably the best to start with but be aware that the first couple of seasons had more talk and less action.
Deep Space Nine is my favorite but it doesn't follow the Star Trek format so not a good one to start with. It has the best character development, IMO.
Star Trek Voyager is probably the one to watch second.
Star Trek Enterprise was really good but I'd still probably say to watch it last.
There are a couple others on here that are Trekkers big time. I hope they see this thread.
There is also an animated series. It was based on The original series and had most of the original actors voices. Supposedly it is not considered Star Trek canon. The rest of them are.
You would, of course, want to watch that after The Original Series
Deep Space Nine is also my favorite (and Seth MacFarlane's!), but I wouldn't recommend it to start out on. The Next Generation is great, and I'm pretty sure it's still on Netflix and Hulu, so I'd say go with that one if you're not a big sci fi fan.
Dark Friday will be on this thread like white on rice when he logs in....
Personally, I have a tie between the original series and Next Generation. The original series is definitely dated, but it's also a cultural icon, groundbreaking TV, and just fun. It's also the basic primer for all the shows and movies that followed it. I'd recommend trying it out, and if it seems too old and hokey, switch to Next Generation. Personally, I didn't have even a flicker of interest in any of the other TV shows, but to each his own.....
BTW, If I remember correctly, the original series pilot is called "The Menagerie", and it's awesome, but the show's character changed a bit when the actual series got going....
Was Babylon Five a Star Trek franchise?
Yes, as was Dr. Who
I feel much better about myself.
A good argument can be made that Paramount borrowed heavily from Babylon 5 when developing Deep Space Nine.
This. Babylon 5. Best Sci-fi series ever.
Are you mocking me????? I haven't watched much TV since the early '90's...(srs)(and that don't mean watching TV shows on the 'puter, either.)
No. I thought you were joking and was playing along. Sorry.
Listen sport, we don't joke about Star Trek. I'll put a Vulcan nerve pinch on you like you've never had before.
