Went and had a meeting with a bunch of other contractors....some with hands of steel, while a couple gave the ol' "dead fish hand shake" One of the guys complained that my hand shake was a little too firm, but I felt his hand shake was unmanly.
I prefer a medium to hard firmness when shaking hands with other males, but I will lighten up considerably when shaking the hand of a female.

Depends how much hand sanitizer you've got.

Medium, of course, but as you noted, one person's firm is another's wimpy.

to me, it's more important to get all the way in there, smack up between the thumb web and first finger; you give me your fingertips, i'm likely to squish them together

you hold on too long, the grip gets harder :hhh:

Always blows my mind when people try to prove their manhood by squeezing hands.

I hate going for a fist bump, then the person goes for a handshake. Awkward.

Bowing and more noodles are the only things I'd trade with Asia. Handshakes suck.

and don't extend your hand to shake a woman's hand; don't give a fuck about women's lib, it's just wrong :dontcare:

if they extend their hand, then a nice gentle clasp is fine. if necessary, ask them if your rag smells like cloroform, and if they wake up, tell them not to turn this rape into a murder.

    chivalry is not dead :hat:

I give a firm shake and extend my index finger to their wrist as if feeling for a pulse. A handshake is a way of connecting with a person and is very important, especially if it is a first time meeting that person. Look the person in the eyes while doing this as well.

I have had had numerous compliments on my handshake and converted many to do it the way I do it once I explain the reasons why I shake the way I do.

Not sure if that's a secret masonic handshake or a gay overture?

The Grip of the Entered Apprentice is made by pressing the thumb against the top of the first knuckle-joint of the fellow Mason, the fellow Mason also presses his thumb against the first Mason's knuckle.

The hand is taken as in an ordinary hand shake, and the Mason presses the top of his thumb against the space between the first and second knuckle joints of the first two fingers of his fellow Mason; the fellow Mason also presses his thumb on the corresponding part of the first Mason's hand. The name of this grip is "Shibboleth". When a candidate is imparted with this grip and its usage it is done in this manner:

The Mason takes the fellow Mason by the right hand as in an ordinary hand shake, and presses the top of his thumb hard on the second knuckle, the fellow Mason presses his thumb against the same knuckle of the first Mason's hand.
At this point in the ritual, the instruction goes directly from the pass grip to the real grip.

The Mason places his thumb on the space between the second and third knuckles of the fellow Mason's right hand, while the fellow Mason moves his thumb to the corresponding space on the first Masons hand. The thumb is pressed hard between the second and third knuckles of the hands. The name of this grip is "Tubalcain".

The Mason firmly grasps the right hand of a fellow Mason. The thumbs of both hands are interlaced. The first Mason presses the tops of his fingers against the wrist of the fellow Mason where it unites with the hand. The fellow Mason at the same time presses his fingers against the corresponding part of the the first Mason's hand and the fingers of each are somewhat apart. This grip is also called the Strong Grip of the Master Mason or the Lion's Paw. Instruction for this grip is given at the "graveside", after the candidate has been "raised".
