the way lawyers draw shit out for those sentenced to death seems that sending someone to Colorado's Supermax would be a far worse fate. ...

    What do you think?

Good question. I wouldn't want a life where I'm alone all the time. I saw something on TV that explored the subject and tons of time spent alone with almost no human contact drives people insane in those places.

death is punishment, life in prison is life. i would prefer a long and painful death for murderous scum, but down and dirty is ok too.

i know the arguments in favor of life, i disagree with them. if you killed my loved one - knowing you are alive, eating, dreaming, reading?, i wouldn't like it.

    i'm not evolved enough. :bigcry:

Those "SuperMax" prisons are gayer than gay. Look at how the rest of the First World treats prisoners and then look at how the US warehouses prisoners, feeding them horrific slop, refusing necessary medical care, et cetera. It's fucking evil. No place for that. Certainly nothing like "rehabilitation". Factor out the Reggies, the dopesuckers... who's left? The "too big to fail" bankers? Oh, wait, none of them are in prison, are they?

Most human rights organizations and some constitutional rights groups equate isolation to torture.

One day my father said to me, "there's a horrible, stinky place. Full of animals that will fuck your ass all day long. If you break the law, that's where you'll go" I thought about it and decided not to go there. It sounded unpleasant. It hasn't been that difficult to avoid it.

If you're at supermax and let's say you have a heart attack and you're about to die, can your family come see you? Because if they can, that's bullshit.

I'd imagine that death row would be a pretty sad place. The only way you'll ever see the outside world is in a box.

Between the protracted appeals and the time and expense they incur, IMO, it's six of one, half a dozen of the other from the taxpayer's perpsective. I'm either for streamlined capital case appeal procedures leading to expeditious executions or mandatory lobotomies for first degree homicide convictions not resulting in death sentences.

For me, prison. But for my kids' sake, I'd take that over the death penalty.

In my teens, I was headed down the wrong path until I watched the original Scared Straight.

It got me to focus on never going to prison.

For some families that would actually be a selling point.
