As far as I can tell, HLN Headline News only has 1 actual live news broadcast - Morning Express from 6a to Noon. And only 3 other shows that resemble news - Daily Share, Nancy Grace and Drew which only comprise another 3 hours each (although Nancy and Drew each air twice - mid-day and evening.

I am just amazed that the rest of the time is literally filled up with Forensic Files. How many episodes of this can there be?

I often wish that there were more cable news outlets other than CNN, MSNBC and FOX. I feel like HLN could fill in. If not, at least diversify the programming with something other than Forensic Files.

HLN is just the Nancy Grace soap opera crime channel with wall to wall coverage of what ever pretty white girl got kidnapped murdered or killed someone else this month.

CNN, Fox and NBC are to news what WWE is to Olympic wrestling.

Sad, but if you want the straight news with no "fluff" you need to watch...
    BBC America or Al Jazeera

When they first started, it was news 24/7. But Maybe Americans love not to know.

It's the latest trend. Create programming for things that has nothing to do with the channel title, and wait for the slugs to tune in.

I completely agree and I do have these channels, but since they are not part of the main TWC cable news line-up, I forget I have them. I also like Bloomberg and even CCTV (Chinese news) is somewhat interesting.

I like Dr Drew - he was particularly entertaining throughout the Zimmerman trial...

Does anyone remember the the on-air quips between Zimmerman's buddy (Frank Taffe I think) and Shaharazad Ali ?? They are absolute gold! Gold, I tell you! You can find them on youtube - definately worth a watch if you havent or another watch if you have.

Once you get past the name(for most here that's impossible), it really is a good news service that gives the straight dope on what's going on in this Country(and the world).

I use torrents, check all the different news outlets and make my own political decisions. I don't need to be told what to think by some left or right wing "entertainment" news organization.

The thing I like about CNBC is that they actually provide interesting original and licensed content once the news is over. I dont see why HLN couldnt do the same.

That's who I am talking about - "Ms. Ali" as Drew would refer to her.

The Weather Channel was getting grief from cable/satellite operators since they ran reality programming all the time. TWC figured out that 24/7 live weather is not that interesting and ratings suck when there is no storm around.

MTV showed that an original concept in the long run must adapt. They kept as quite as possible, the higher ratings the long-form programming had over music videos.

The Weather Channel cuts Roker, Champion, reality shows
    By DAVID BAUDER
    Sep. 10, 2015 2:27 PM EDT

NEW YORK (AP) — The Weather Channel says it is getting rid of its reality TV shows, along with morning shows led by Sam Champion and Al Roker.

The struggling network is looking to get back to its roots, with less expensive programming and a lineup that appeals more to weather geeks. An estimated 50 people out of The Weather Channel's staff of 1,400 are losing jobs as a result, the network said on Thursday.

Two of the channel's most popular shows are "Prospectors," about miners searching for valuable metals in Colorado, and "Fat Guys in the Woods," where couch potatoes are taught survival skills. Shows already in the work, like the scientific experiment program "Three Scientists Walk Into a Bar" and "Natural Born Monsters," about animals who adapt to extreme weather conditions, will air but no new such programs will be ordered.

These shows tend to have bigger audiences than typical weather programming, attracting people who might not normally watch The Weather Channel, but they alienate many among the network's core audience of intense weather fans.

I used to watch HLN in the late 80's. I don't really watch TV anymore, I think news as a whole is possibly the one thing that has declined the most in society in the last 20 or 25 years.
