I was only half listening. Did he basically say that Howard kept him from getting a gig?
Yes. Very cryptic. For those that haven't listened, it started when he went off about Johnny Carson black balling Joan Rivers in Hollywood and never talking to her again, after she took the late night job at Fox before she went to Johnny with the information. Then Artie started telling a story about the Craig Fergoson time slot (maybe as a sidekick) and how he went to "his Johnny" beforehand, and somehow "his Johnny" nixed the whole thing.
It was a pretty good one. And he said that the all the information will be told one day. Sounds like he is still holding back on really exposing some Howard stories for the time being.
I bet if subscriptions start going down he'll spill the beans. He's already commented before about how every time he mentions stern is subs go up.
On another matter, I thought Judd appatow and stern were buddy buddy. I'm surprised artie is on his new show if they are friends, given how artie has been ramping up his stern complaints the last few months.
Judd just doesn't give a fuck about Howard's feelings. He was honest about Stern turning his show into an AGT infomercial and they even feuded for a time
"The producers said that he would have to be a real megalomaniac, a real sociopath, to say that he didn't want you to do this." 33:15 of episode 282
-Artie's comment about the CBS people going to Howard to ask if Artie could be released from his Stern Show contract to take a late night gig
I don't remember that. I stopped listening in November. Though I started tuning the show out over the prior year. I would listen, but my brain would go numb from all the bs.
I wonder what the time frame is for that. How many years did this take place before Howard fired him?
Their mini feud was summer of 2012. Apatow tweeted something like "Howard? Really? Talking about AGT again?"
That drove howard crazy he started bashing Apatow and his movie Funny People. They since reconciled
can anyone post #282 for us peons?
Can't find it on YouTube. Fucking Turk army has us on blackout
First of all, Artie is talking out of his ass.
I highly doubt CBS had Artie on the shortlist to replace Craig Kilborne. If anything, he might have been considered for a role on the never-produced Late Late Show with Norm Macdonald. I assume that's what he's referring to.
If so, it's interesting because Norm claims he wasn't made aware of it until the decision for Ferguson had already been made!
Maybe Norm just tells the story this way for dramatic effect and in reality he did know he was up for the gig and wanted Artie as his sidekick and Artie went to Stern and Stern said no dice.
But even if, at that point it would have only been a pilot. To claim that it was a done deal that Howard ruined seems very unlikely.
Artie never said he would be the top guy. The only way that us listeners pieced together the time slot was because Artie said at different times that the gig was after Letterman as well as his reference to the CBS producers.
I imagine they wanted him for some sort of sidekick role.
I'm sure heroin had nothing to do with him not getting gigs.
A lotta what-ifs and maybes. I don't think the Late Late Show seat was ever in the cards for Norm, although I do think his current sidekick, Adam Egret, is a better fit than Artie.
Artie should get over his obsession with Howard and maybe start trying to hold himself accountable for allowing networks who are potentially looking for late night side kicks to see him like this on national TV
If it's true howard did Artie the biggest favor
It's Artie's career not Howie's. IF Artie wanted to do this, Howard should have stayed out of it and let him do it. However it turned out, Howard is the ass here.
Daaaaammnn Daniel... that shit is wack!
Probably another reason he was using.
