What's the most you'd spend on a new wardrobe?

Not all at once but season by season?

My plan is to drop my extra weight then buy either the bulk of a new wardrobe or several new items to complement what I already have.

I love getting good deals so I won't be hitting up Saks or Bergdorf's and the like (except for perhaps a pair of shoes I saw in a catalogue). But I've never stepped foot in places that 'upscale' before but may this one time.

My style is classic and semi-corporate. These clothes would be for work. I make good scratch but value money so won't go crazy but I am looking to update my wardrobe!

How much would you justify spending over the course of the year? $500/$1,000/$2,000 a season? I'm talking about the whole kit and kaboodle (from new undies on out).

I think Nordstrom has classy clothes for the ladies. They have a 1/2 yearly sale where there are super good deals. Nonetheless, I think you can get away with 1000 per season if you pick things that can go between seasons. Like a sweater that you can do for fall and winter.

ok, now i feel super gay.

Depends on how good you are with mixing and matching (God, I can't believe I just typed that  ) Before you buy a whole new wardrobe, think about getting some of your stuff altered and tailor fit. You'll save a ton of money. But to your original question, I would say a new wardrobe could run between $2-4,000, if you really do it right.

I used to self-tailor most of my clothes (I'm petite yet have an hourglass figure) with my sewing machine and by hand-sewing certain hems, etc. It's been a year since I busted out the sewing machine but this would be a great reason to. I'm pretty good at mixing and matching so I could definitely stay within the 2-4k range. Thanks!

I hate shopping. I wear tshirts and jeans. I should buy some nice clothes but don't go anywhere to wear.

5000 dollars, that is like a third of what I make in a year :jj:

Yeah but I work in an office in midtown Manhattan so even though I wish I could wear my pajama set all day I need to represent a bit. :)

I'm guessing you have the "go-to timeless pieces that very woman should have in her closet", according to all of the fashion experts (tailored dark suit, trench coat, white men's styled white collared shirt, black pencil skirt, navy trousers, black cardigan) so if you can build around those items, you have given yourself a ton of options.

I spend way too much on clothes for a dude

DJ- Macy's has so many sales and they give so many coupons on top of the sale prices. You can get some great deals. Nordstrom's don't have sales as often.

I'm really going to miss my fuller bosom when I drop some of this weight! That's the only drawback about the whole thing.

    lol, ok Brian Peppers. :)
