on why Sirius shelled out $90 million / year for Howard stern?

To me, Howard will argue that he did a better job so he's worth more, but nobody's gonna buy that shit.

You can argue that Howard was driving a hard bargain and Sirius wanted to keep exclusivity... But that's bullshit too.

My theory is that Howard actually did get a pay cut for the radio show. The extra money is a separate deal for the archives. I'll bet anything that we later find out that Howard phases off the air and turns into a dj of sorts to play his own clips. This setting up his retirement where he looks like he planned it all along instead of going out with a whimper.

    That's my theory anyway

Doubt that $90 million figure is accurate.

He tried to peddle his old tapes and realized they were worthless and all the good ones were out on the torrents and youtube already.

He got $90 million, if he did, because that's the most he could get for his worthless old tapes and his new deal.

Remember when he first got to Sirius and Oprah had a better deal than he did? He pissed and moaned about that every day for the first 5 years.
He will probably have a similar deal, where he never shows up, but gets paid a shitload of money for his name and old content.
Sirius has to be the most poorly run business that has ever existed.
