Every year the kids trick or treating in the neighborhood gets smaller and smaller. I had to be at work at 7 tonight and passed about three or four churches doing trunk or treat, fucking hundreds of kids. Hundreds of kids having to stand in a line and be herded through a parking lot with rows of cars to get candy from. Its so depressing to see, fucking parents too lazy to take their kids around one night a year and let them be kids. I was just curious what some others thought about this, I am so glad that shit wasnt around when I was a kid and thankful to have had parents that gave a shit. I ranted of FB about this and the Christians attacked me pretty bad. :snicker:

Some argued the safety factor but I call bullshit. You can still drive to decent neighbor hoods, also.. remember when mom would sit down and actually check the candy that you got?

The safety thing is bullshit, so all church people are good, and not evil?

I'm guessing the battery life isn't good for the Walmart fat moms' scooters. Probably good for a couple of houses before they have to turn back.

Considering the child predator plague currently sweeping the larger metroplexes it's the lesser of two evils and less likely to induce life-long trauma.

We do them at our school every year a few days before Halloween ... sort of like a community fun night. It's actually pretty cool .... and the kids still did the normal trick or treat tonight.

If they're really looking for safety and efficiency they should just bring the kid home a few bags of candy and show them pictures of people dressed up in costumes.

Deacon Fred is probably not going to bend little Jimmy over the tailgate of his pickup right there in the parking lot.

I've never heard of that. Sounds terrible. I thought Christians were anti-Halloween anyway. Are they trying to steal another holiday from the Pagans?

Where I live is pretty rural with a lot of distance between houses. Not a great set up for kids to trick or treat. So what our town does, is everyone buys candy and donates it, then they give the candy out to the dozen or so houses in the center of town. The kids then go to those houses to trick or treat as well as the town park where they have face painters, clowns, costume contest and games for them to play. Seems to work out well every year.....

Seems like a good way to load up on a lot of candy fast, then head for the houses. But I wouldn't trust it.... when I was a kid somebody lured my friend and I to church with an offer of free pizza... they made us listen to what seemed like hours of "blah, blah, blah" until the pizza came out.

But on the more serious side ... it does seem safer than walking the kids around the neighborhood. :dontknow:

I was surprised to learn that nobody has ever been killed from tainted Halloween candy. The only incident was a father poisoning his son in an attempt to collect life insurance. Other than that, there has never been a recorded case of poisoning, razors, or any of the other popular candy myths. My parents were always super paranoid about this shit, only to find out thats it's mostly overblown.

Of course they're all good. Like, say, this guy:

I mean, whoever this church man is, I'd rather have him giving my kid candy than that weird looking neighbor. With her tats and such.

Trick or treat was one of the greatest joys of my childhood. Which would then put it as one of the greatest of my life, being that adulthood has really sucked and I was mostly happy as a kid.

I remember one year they cancelled it and in place had a community Halloween party for the neighborhood kids at the firehall. I was majorly bummed. I'm guessing all the bogus hysteria over razor blades in apples and poisoned candy caused this. Nothing bad ever actually happened in our area, but you know how people get. Luckily they returned to trick or treating the next year.

When I was a kid, it lasted a few of hours and most was after dark. We'd walk the entire neighborhood. Now, it's usually one hour and always during daylight. I understand why it's like that, but it's a shame how everything has to suck now.
