The do you hate your siblings thread got me thinking; what's your relationship like with your parents?

I'll start. My mom was literally insane when I was a kid and totally useless. She was a housewife who claimed that her children were her number one priority but really didn't do shit for me personally. There are a handful of times I can think of that show her craziness. For example, when I was 4, I was in the last row of seats in our land cruiser and was complaining about a seatbelt. She floored the car and slammed on the brakes. I broke the front windshield and my collar bone. Another time I broke my arm and she refused to take me to the hospital. It was a clean break through both bones and she finally took me after my arm started to discolor and I wasn't using it 2 weeks later. The list goes on and on but I'll spare you.

My dad was never around, workaholic and when he was home he was verbally and physically very abusive. Both were evangelical christian and made us go to church on Sundays and I went to this bible school every day in the week from 5pm to 10pm. When I came out at 16, they sent me to this "troubled children" boarding school which was also a pray away the gay camp. There were kids with violent offense records, drug addicts, and me. I was there for A YEAR.

They know they fucked up now and try really hard to get close to me, but frankly I don't have a lot of interest.

    How about you?

Great relationship with my Mom. However, I have not spoken to my father in 7 years.

Did your mom re-marry? I remember your disdain for stepfathers.

I was waiting for that response, ha. What was it like before they passed? I have another question for you after your answer if that's okay.

I adored my Dad. He died suddenly 4 years ago. My Mum and I get along fairly well, considering we're both very strong willed opinionated women. I realized how much my Dad was kind of a "barrier" between my Mum and I...lol.

My relationship with both was great, especially my mother. My father wasnt around much when we were kids, although they were married MANY years. He and I had a couple of decent times when he wasnt so mobile toward the end.

    Ask away...

A very good friend told me over 30yrs ago, "that you can't pick your family but you could friends". I believe he was correct. :secret:

If you were going to say it was bad I was going to ask you if you had any regrets when they died. Mine are getting up there in age and It's been on my mind a lot for that reason. Anyway, I'm glad you had a good time with them while they were here, truly :)
