In the 40's and 50's we had Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne. Then Brando was great in the 50's with Streetcar Named Desire and On the Waterfront. Jack Nicholson with Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, the Last Detail, & Cuckoo's Nest. DeNiro made Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, the Deer Hunter, King of Comedy, GoodFellas, and Casino. Gene Hackman in Bonnie & Clyde, French Connection, and Unforgiven. Even Pacino before he became a caricature (like Nicholson) was great in the Godfather 1 & 2 and Serpico. Are present day movie stars just too faggy and mannered? Not one of them stick out in my mind as anything special except for some good comedy roles by Steve Carrell. Maybe I'm just getting old, not sure.
