Like everyone, it's a day I'll never forget. I was in school at the time and someone came in and said that planes crashed into the World Trade Center. Of course we didn't believe them but then we saw the horror on TV. Where were you on 9/11?

At work in Middletown, NY. There was talk on the radio of possibly shutting down the interstates, so we all hauled ass for home. I was driving around 95-100 mph and had state troopers passing me.

In a hotel a couple miles from the pentagon. I was watching NYC on TV as I was getting ready to drive back to MA that am. My oldest son yells DAD look at that plane! out our hotel window, by the time I turn it's gone but a few seconds later I hear the BOOM and see a mushroom cloud rising over the roof of the building across from me.

It took me 11:45 to drive home. Normally it is a 7 hour drive. Scary thing is I had planned to take my oldest to see the pent before we left that am but I set the alarm wrong and didn't get up in time to drive over. We would have been there when it was hit if the alarm went off

They shut down 95 from Maryland through NJ. I had to detour through PA till I was past NYC then I cut across northern NJ/NY into western CT.

On the mass pike I had the same thing happen. I was doing around 90-95 as I had stopped to feed the boys so my time would average me at 65. All of a sudden I see a shitload of red and blues closing on me fast, I pull over a lane and start to coast so the brake lights didn't come on when the line of staties passed me like I was standing still. There was a huge black limo in the middle of the escort so I figured the governor must have been heading to Boston from the Berkshires.

Ya that's how I felt about it too. The day befor my daughter had sung on the back stage at capital hill. The pres flew overhead in his helicopter during the middle of the performance on his way down to FL to read the kids that story the next day. It was cool how they transport the president. 3 identical helicopters all changing position as they fly.

...i was home in bed, turned on the morning news in time to catch the first report of a plane hitting the building. john scott the talking head for fox news that morning didnt have much more than that as it was a story/event that was breaking. thats what i woke up to here on the west coast.

we had a highrise that was suppose to be a target as well as a couple of buildings in l.a. were targeted, after the 2 planes hit the towers everything but the shanksville plane had been grounded otherwise we all may have seen more attacks that day.

I was at work. I was working in Short Hills NJ at the time, and my daily commute home would take me down Route 78 East to the NJ turnpike. Every day for weeks I would see plumes of smoke on 78 East where the Twin Towers used to be. A woman I worked with, in another department, lost her husband that day. Colleagues of mine who worked in the Financial District in NYC had body parts rain down on them that day as they were trying to get out of the fray.

I was a senior in college, flipped on headling news to see the first plane had already crashed. On my way out the door to a 2 hr environmental economics class some guy came running out of his apartment and said "another plane hit and we are at war". I went to class anyway, on the way home picked up "the blueprint" and spent the rest of the day sitting around smoking weed.

Surfing off 12 st in huntington beach. Some dirthead surfer said that nyc was attacked but we all figured acid killed his last brain cells and didn't believe him. Afterwards i was glued to the tv and didn't go to work. Never been so violently angry and sad at the same time.

worst thing that happened was 2 days after a single engine plane was flying around the Bridgewater area of MA. You could hear it instantly because there was no other air traffic at all. Never did find out what it was doing flying during the no fly time but he must have been some big wig. I remember thinking what if this was phase 2 and anthrax was about to be dumped.

I was a third year Medical student just finishing up a 12 week rotation in internal medicine. We were just reviewing concepts for a week, that Tuesday when class started at 8am someone came in late and told us about the first plane, then someone told us about the second plane. After we heard about the third plane, the instructor let us go. My father worked for the airlines at the time and I remember calling his back line at work. He answered and I knew he was OK. At that point no one knew what was going on, and I just hoped he was OK. He told me that day, this is going to change things forever. I still remember it all very clearly. I volunteered to give medical assistance to any survivors because I was only 2 hours away--They never called me back.

I had just moved to Ohio from NY. I had moved two weeks earlier (my lease began on September 1st.) So I was listening to my radio in my new unfurnished living room, unpacking boxes. I didn't think much of it after the first plane hit (I thought it was some small private plane) but when Howard mentioned a second plane hit the WTC, I went and woke up my then girlfriend. We listed to THSS together and had CNN on with the volume muted.

I tried calling my mom and brother in NY, but couldn't get through. There were reports of a hijacked plane heading to Cleveland...unconfirmed stories of bombs being found in airports and planes. Then the Pentagon strike and crash in PA were announced. The media made it seem like it was a nationwide attack. I went to my nearest ATM and took out as much cash as possible just in case.

By early afternoon, the figurative smoke started to clear and the media was reporting that there were "only" four hijackings. All the rumors and false stories got corrected and shit felt less dire. But I was numb. The whole country was. I was angry and wanted blood, but I was worried and just wanted to know that my friends and family was alright. Every emotion imaginable ran through my head.

I just remember hating that I wasn't still in NY. I felt so impotent that there was nothing I could do to help volunteer once the second tower was down. Even if it meant just handing out water or something, I wanted to do it. It was a weird time. For a brief moment; every American was my brother and sister. I suspected in was bin Laden because I had been fascinated with him since the Cole bombings. So I had this intense hate for whoever the fuck was responsible...and this love for everybody in this country. It was probably my first true feeling of unadulterated patriotism and also probably my last. But yeah, what a mind fuck that morning was. I can't even begin to imagine how people involved or living in NYC must have felt.
