Or is it too difficult to decide?

After all, Oprah has her own money on the line.

Howard is rakin' in the dough and flat out just doesnt give a shit anymore.

Oprah's failure is much greater. She put waaaaaaaay more money into OWN than Howard ever put into 100/101.

Kind of apples and oranges, considering the massive start-up and operational costs of a TV channel. But yeah, Oprah blew it in a major way. Her version of the channel is over and after the huge cutbacks and layoffs, Discovery Communications will be running the show instead of her. Her talent was making people who sit on a couch momentarily feel good about themselves, don't know why anyone trusted her business sense.

I don't really think it is even close from a scope of influence perspective. Oprah has much more relevancy and we are talking about an entire TV network, so the fail is much bigger. Financially, I don't know that you can even call Howard 100 a failure, content-wise that's a whole different issue. 101 is a toxic wasteland, that Howard should be embarrassed by, but he approaches it like a smarmy inside joke.

well what I was trying to say is that howard got use to the marbles from when his show was televised..
so when he went to sirius he created howard tv to sop up any gravy marble that might have got loose.

Hard to compare radio to TV financially, but in terms of programming they're quite similar. Both Howard and Oprah have very little on-air presence and depend on reruns and shows hosted by friends and amateurs for content. Both are also a big disappointment to their fans who were promised and expected a lot more. As for HowardTV, the fact that Howard never mentions the subscriber numbers tells you it's a huge failure.

At least Oprah tried to make it work, Howard invested zero money and zero effort.

Oprah is the bigger failure. Her expectations were much higher than Wiggy.

    Hands down it's OWN...

Winfrey's network has never really gained any traction at all, while H100 /101 had several great years at the beginning...

BethO has appeared numerous times on Howard 100/101, but OWN has never lowered its standards to let the d list BethO on. Any channel that has a no talent hack, shit charity spokesperson on all the time is the bigger failure. To me at least

    First, fuck you bababullshit.

Next, the op asks a difficult question. On what should we base our judgement?

If we compare budget losses, Howard hasn't lost nearly as much as oprah

If we compare disappointment factor based on the amount of effort put in, Howard is dividing by zero.

Ill base my answer on how much the viewer/listener was promised, versus what they got... Howard loses big time, since Oprah at least delivered on what she said she would. Her content may have sucked, but at least it was there for me to judge. Howard is the king of empty promises as evidenced by a complete lack of content (even the signature fucking show is dark over 75% of the year) as well as the third channel that never materialized.

Oh yeah, and I didn't have to pay for oprahs failure...

Great question. It is tough to say. I would say the first 4 years of Howard's contract were a great success. After Artie imploded the show was shot and Howard lost his mojo. Oprah was a failure, however, I would not really know because I don't watch or give a shit. I suspect the money lost on Oprah was her own. I don't pay to see her channel, it is simply there as part of my cable bundle. Howard's second contract, although undisclosed, is probably very expensive. His company is getting the bare minimum and so are the subcribers. Fat housewives across America will always love Oprah, however, Howard's most loyal fans have all but abandoned him. I say the biggest failure is Howard.

Howard's show may have been good for a couple of years, but H101 started out bad, got worse, and there's no hope it will ever get better.

Oprah's had tremendous success producing other talk shows and television shows. Her last seasons should have been nothing than backdoor pilots for her channel. Instead it was praise for her greatness. Howard's never had any success outside of doing his own show.
