A) The young version, w/ the Hollywood good looks
B) The salty old dog version.
The one who got his dick cut off.
Wow he was gorgeous when he was young!
Wasn't his real name Marion??

I like the salty, old dog. His looks when he was younger added nothing to his character and meant nothing to me.
Wasn't he also involved in some gang rape when he was young @wife is a whore ?
Well put. The wear and tear of aging definitely added tons of depth to his character.
I don't know about gang rape. There are rumors that he fucked an underage Natalie Wood, but her mother pimped her out to anyone in Hollywood w/ an offer of a role.
This is gettin' to be re-goddamned-diculous.
I voted older.
He had some great roles after 1960.
middle aged slightly weathered look of the searchers and liberty vallance era
Never liked John Wayne. Awful actor and the only good movie he ever made was "Quiet Man".
Shitty actor that did all he could to avoid serving in the military while portraying war heros in films. Fuck his rotted carcass!
Was never a fan...

In the annals of horrible stage moms, the foreign-born mother to this then almost A-list child and teen star who later made the transition to A+ list leading lady is among the worst. She acted as her pimp, accompanying her from casting couch to casting couch to sleep with men as old as the father of the actress. Two famous A+ list Oscar winning/nominees were among her sex partners.
Foreign-born mother: Maria Stepanovna
A-list actress: Natalie Wood
Famous A+ list Oscar winning/nominees: John Wayne; Kirk Douglas;
Did he? The injury that took him off the USC football team didn't keep him out? Or the fact that he was in his 30s when WW2 broke out?
Did a search on John Wayne and one of the things that came up was this thread LOL
And why this thread. WGAF. He is long gone!
He got some deffered status for family reasons. The story goes that it was early on his career and he felt that if he went off to war his star status would wane by his return. He claimed he would just make a few more movies then enlist. He made a dozen plus during the war and never did sign up. Tough talk. Jimmy Stewart and John Ford were probably in similar circumstances and went off to war anyway.
I begrudge nobody for not wanting to go to war but something with "the Douche" never sat well with me. What do I know tho?
