    1. A National Director of Sales job, but with 2-3 nights a week out, mostly air travel. Company is basic in the industry and there is a clear need for the products. Some interntional travel too, China, India, and England-also potentially other countries.

Money is higher on this job that the one below, car, home office set up, etc.

    2. A Regional Job, you are very well versed on the products. 1-2 nights a week out, mostly car travel. Company is very stable, but you work for a guy you literally would gladly set on fire. Money is good, no real pressure, but limited potentil for growth.

#2 is my current job. I mostly keep him at email and phone length, even though he lives in the same town as I do. I don't consider him trustworthy and after several years of working for him I've developed a really strong dislike for him.

Well, it has not been offered, but the Global Sales Director called me the day I put my resume in (last Tuesday) and I'm meeting with him and the people this coming Tuesday. Really fast, in particular with the holiday in between.

I've done it my entire career. But air travel for work is a much bigger pain in the ass than it used to be. I'd mostly be traveling into the Atlantic Coast, Midwest, and SE. The job covers the energy segment-power plants and the oil and gas business (Houston/New Orleans).

The long hauls may kill your spirit. I know someone who used to travel a lot for work (same/similar distances) and it nearly broke him. Are you married with kids? If you're single, you may want to try it out for a spell.

You hate who you work for and have a limited potential for growth. What's in question here?

In the scenario you described, option #1. In my company, you would make a lot more money but you
had better come up with some fresh ideas. It's not like a regional job where you basically do nothing but bust the
    district manager's balls.

What would you prefer? A bank account with free checking and a balance of $67,000, or a bank account with free checking and a balance of $752,000?

Life isn't all about money. Every job I've had I've had some boss that I hate somewhere so you can learn to deal with that. I work so my home life is good......if I'm never home but making a ton of money and my work life is great then who cares because my home (real) life is wrecked. Decide what's more important. Maybe you can have a balance and both work out. I always lean heavily to home happiness even if it means suffering at work. That's just me tho.

    This.

    Random Thoughts:

Sounds to me like money is basically the only thing the new job has to offer (and that certainly isn't bad.) You only go around once in life so make sure you know what you are getting into and that it fits into your personal life.

Do you have young kids? Which job will have you home more so you can attend plays, events, help coach their team. In other words, be part of their lives? They grow up fast.
You say the money at #2 is good. How much do you need? Do you already make enough to save for a comfortable retirement and provide well for your family?

I traveled a lot for a long time and you are right, travel has become a pain in the ass. First class upgrades are getting really hard to get unless you are on an off the beaten path route. Is your company going to pay for first class on international? I'd make sure I negotiate that if it already isn't policy.

If you don't have kids, will you be? If you are married, how does your wife feel about it?
