Saw Neil Young last night at Carnegie Hall. When we got there (early to have a few drinks) we saw his bus pull up on 57th St and Neil got out and was real cool to people, signed a couple of autographs and wasn't to cantankerous.

It it brought to mind a question--who are the coolest rock stars Dawgs People have met & who were the bigest jerks?

For me, I met Slash at LAX--so cool. Very sweet, nice guy.
Southside Johnny is the nicest & most fun guy in the world.
Bruce Springsteen was really cool. Took pictures with me & my GF outside of Barney's NY.

On the other side--Pete Townshend was really aloof. Just didn't want to be bothered
Mick Jagger was a total jack off.

Went backstage at a Phish show back in the early 90s. Mike and Trey were kinda jerky and aloof. Fishman and Page were great....especially Fishman....he talked to us for a while and answered all my dumb questions.

I love these type of threads, probably a different era than you're going for, but through my years of reading I've gleaned Maynard from Tool is the douchiest. Figures.

Any one ever meet that Lost Prophets cat? He chill?

Maybe not quite from the exact same era but Marlo Timmins from Cowboy Junkies is maybe the nicest, most accommodating person in the world to her fans. Met her a couple of times and she has been great.

So, you were part of the crowd that couldn't clap in beat and threw Neil off last night.

I'm guessing these news people blew the moment out of proportion.

I met Stefan Lessard of DMB. Very nice guy. He drew me a picture next to his autograph.

Flew into Seattle late 90's for a business meeting. In the airport train deal I walked into a car and saw these incredible smoking hot women standing around...then saw two guys that looked like skater bums...thought "are they together?" then saw Billy and realized it was Green Day. Nodded "hello" at Billy and after we got off told Tre and Mike on the escalator that I liked the new album and they were very cool and gracious "thanks man, really appreciate that".

Very cool "down to earth" guys considering how huge they were by this time.

I've met a few, I wrote about this here a while back. I met Rick Wakeman from YES after a small solo piano concert. I greeted him and shook his hand and planned to move on and not bore him. After making a comment about Yes, he just started talking and we had a 15-20 min. conversation about the band and the music. He was a mellow as they come, it was like chatting with a neighbor.

I did some landscaping work at Jeff Ament's (Pearl Jam) house a few years ago. He lives here in Missoula. Nice guy.

Neil is a moody MF, no doubt.

He did say last night, when people started shouting out requests at the begining of the show , something like "you people. Paid a lot of money to get in here tonight, if you want to talk to each other go ahead." That quieted the crowd down.

    Neil kicks ass.

That seems to be pretty consistent; Our Band Could Be Your Life has bad stories from EVERYONE regarding him.

I remember reading an interview w/Mike Peters of The Alarm - he said he saw The Sex Pistols play, and he was just - mesmerized, fascinated by watching John get up there and sing, and made his way backstage after the gig - went up to him, and asked, HOW do you get up on stage & DO that? ... apparently John just really snorted/disregarded his question and walked off. Mike said this ended up being a big inspiration for him, that HE was going to go onstage, he was going to sing, and he never was going to treat his fans like that. [IMG]
