Do you like it? Are there any charges that go with it? Thinking of getting a Bolt......But don't want to have to pay service charges to have one.......

I used to have one. Cable essentially has the same thing now.

Here's the deal.....I loved the dish DVR, But now I'm with Charter and their equipment is East German surplus can't watch anything if you have two recordings going door stops......But I have to stay with Charter for reasons I have to comply with....So the happy compromise is getting a DVR that
can do what I need it to and stay with Charter........

DVRs are ancient tech. Cablevision has a whole house DVR, records lots of shows and you can watch from any room.

I don't know how to integrate a DVR that doesn't come with the service.

I have a TV Roamio. I love it. I believe it has 4 tuners. You can get one for under $150. I pay $6.95 a month but I believe that is a special rate. You can run it without a subscription but you can't set a "season pass" to record every episode of a show, and with no subscription I think the program guide only goes out to 3 days ahead.

I should mention I don't have cable or satellite TV. I use an antenna.

The TiVO is gay. I remember people talking about this back in the late 90s and early 2000s and it was definitely cool, but DirecTV has a KILLER DVR.

    Fuck the TiVO.

I have a 6 tuner Romario and love it. Have a mini in my bedroom.

Roamio Pro, 450 hours of HD storage and six tuners.Cable card. It's great to never have a scheduling conflict. It's baffling to me why cable companies like Verizon FIOS can't offer a matching product. Verizon does offer an upgraded product but can't compete with the 450 hours of storage or a two week program guide. They also charge over $30 a month rental for their enhanced system. Some cable companies partnered with TIVO. DirectTV and Dish DVR's are equal or better than TIVO.

The future will be every channel, every sporting event and every movie ever made available in the cloud, commercial free for a flat monthly charge. You will never have to worry about a failed hard drive and all your stored programs lost.
The television, movie studios and sports leagues will have to agree with this but I think they will. Right now services like Hulu exist but what I envision is more encompassing. You won't to schedule any recordings. You want to watch Sunday Night Football after getting home from dinner at a relatives house. You just flip on your TV and it's starts playing at the beginning at 10pm at night.

I have a 6 tuner Roamio with lifetime service on it.
I paid $500 for the Roamio and $300 for the lifetime service.
You can stream your movies to most wifi devices, including smartphones.
    It's expensive, but worth it.
