The old stars were better. The ribbons are boring.
The medals look more sleek and shiny.
Yeah, if you are referring to the interim medals, as opposed to the stars and ribbons, I agree. It really doesn't matter though.

Aesthetically not much difference, but the medals of honor (honour if you're a Canuck) seem easier to distinguish between.
They made me feel like a Krakow Ghetto Jew in 1939.

I was PROUD of my shiny medals.
By contrast the ribbons are kind of like the marksmanship medals given to Charles Whitman, Lee Harvey Oswald, et al (to be fair- they were demented assholes who besmirched the fine reputation of decent and honorable Marines)...
But I dig the stars.
