I have observed that this forum frowns upon actual Stern related topics (just kidding!) but last week with the ISIS hotline material I started wondering if Howard just was going off the cuff with that bit or if someone on the staff was writing / conceived of it. it was the first time in a long time that Howard did a good 25 minute bit like that since he had Artie to go off of etc. I think the most fascinating book when this show ends would be someone explaining who was behind each one of the legendary bits (aside from the obvious Billy West carrying the show on his back for an hour at a time).

I suppose Howard thought it was hilarious and thats why he played it rather than keeping it quiet.

    I didn't hear it.

    Was it funny?

Didn't someone recently post pictures of a bunch of behind-the-scenes employees who are never mentioned on-air? I guess those guys 'n gals are writing material? (Uncredited.)

I'd be more fascinated to read about Howard's clandestine fuckery with the employment of his own staff, how the promises he made about the revolution quickly fell apart within just the first year at Sirius, how the Getting Things Done high priestess Marci Turk came to power with no prior experience overseeing a comedy radio show ...

He never admits who helps him. Remember how irritated he was when David Arquette wrote about the "behind the scenes" at the HSS. It is all Howie and his amazing comedy skills.

    Thanks for the link.

So that clip was 4 minutes long, is that the bit? It was like a real 'comedy radio show', I'm shocked. Wasn't great, but no one has posted any 'effort' from Howard in years.

It's sad Fred still plays Tracy's "douche" Has there been no new material to update his board?

The maddening part of it all is that they had such great pieces in place to really make it "appointment listening" -- especially the news department, which was downsized nearly on arrival. A lot of innovative specials & compilations being broadcast during vacations and such. 2006 really was great ....

Ten years ago this month I happily listened to the same few Howard 100 News segments repeated throughout the day. Howard wasn't yet allowed to appear on his own channels, so they filled them with tertiary content. Shuli was following Elliot Offen and doing updates, many now-forgotten reporters were doing follow-up interviews with people Howard spoke to that day on his show, Jon Hein was hosting Superfan Roundtable ...

I was living in Vegas at the time, where Howard's contract had ended the October before the move to Sirius. It was genuinely thrilling to listen to those channels and get a small taste of what was to come.

In the early days of his Sirius run, the show didn't repeat throughout the day; it appeared live in the morning and then aired once again 12 hours later. It really was appointment radio for me to tune in at 6pm to catch up on the hour or so that I'd missed that morning.

Yeah, in Dec. 2005 the hype was through the roof, and rightfully so. No need to beat a dead horse, and a lot of it was covered in your fact-finding thread, but who could've predicted what was to come? Shame the fully-staffed news team didn't last long, Steve Langford especially was fantastic.

I gotta wonder what the channels would sound like now if they didn't get the archives back from CBS. Maybe the blessing became the curse? Who knows ...

Eck those thick ethnic loads you probably spill. You'd probably need wool to properly get it all off.
