Living down here in Florida it could come in handy.

Went for portable. Rarely need it, and plumber, electrician and unit put cost around 10G (sws). But wish I had one.

I gas pipe them all the time. Doing another one Thursday.

Don't want one though. I'm good with my Honda EU2000i

keeps 2 refrigerators and my boiler/hot water working for 2 gallons a day.

Bought a 7k-dub from Costco for $699. Made a suicide plug and backfeed. Boom.

I like gas piping them though.

that's what I do. shut off the main breaker and wire my extension cord into the sub panel in my garage. just so happens both fridges and the boiler are on the same leg. :mrpeanut:

There's a guy in my neighborhood that owns a whole house generator company. We had bad storms a couple years ago that knocked the power out for like 3 days. Mother fucker made sure he had every light possible on at night just to rub it in.

I made a poor man's interlock even though I have the suicide plug. I put a locking cover where I plug it in and keep the key at my main breaker. It's just a reminder.

Run a neutral to your condenser hookup and you can feed the whole house right there. Boom.

To each their own, but I look at these as nice to haves, but not needed. I have a portable with the fuse box lockout. It's enough to keep the main lights we want on, as well as the two fridges. Also keeps the Internet router running for iPads.

Whole house is necessary if you live in an area prone to constant power outages.
