So looks like there is another Democratic "Town Hall" tonight. I'm not big on politics so Maybe this is common knowledge, but why don't the democrats hold debates with both candidates on stage at the same time to go at it like the republicans do? IS this town hall deal new to presidential races? I have vague recollections of actual debates 4 years ago.

Granted the Republican debates with 10 people on stage were a joke, but now that we are down to Bernie and Hillary, I would like to see them both debating their issues back and forth as apposed to watching an interview with them. :dontknow:

Dims probably have some psychological data that shows town halls make the electorate feel more engaged.

I would tune into the event tonight if it were an actual debate. But i have no desire to tune in for a 60 minute hillary interview and a 60 minute bernie interview.

Probably because they're going to hand the nomination to Hillary anyway, why bother to give Bernie any traction?

Part of me likes the fact that hillary is such a psychopath that she needs to cheat coin tosses.

That's one of the things i find odd, i would think Bernie would be pushing for debates over these townhalls. Maybe he is and the DNC isnt having it?

    Aint that the truth!

They almost seem outdated in a way, as well. Especially with twitter and facebook and all the other ways to get your message and platform out to the voters in an instantaneous fashion and all. It isnt like 40 years ago when you may have only had one or two chances to connect with the electorate via one of the 3 major networks!

That's probably why an interview format is so un appealing to me. I would guess everything Bernie and Hillary say in the town hall can be looked up on their websites right now. Really no need to tune in to watch them say those things. So why not let them have it with each other!

People are saying that the DNC wants to keep Hillary off of TV in unscripted situations, and they certainly don't want anyone to see Bernie Sanders debate her. Notice there haven't been many debates and they are always scheduled when few people are watching TV. I can't imagine that is just a coincidence.

Yeah i agree in the sensch that this format benefits hillary. Being the front runner, the big name, the establishment candidate. Like i said earlier, it is crazy that we don't hear bernie's camp demanding debates. Does he maybe not want to come off as bullish or something? It doesnt make much sensch to his campaign.

Which brings me to the question in the OP. Is this town hall format something that the parties have substituted for debates in the past? I know there have always been town hall meetings but it seems there have always been debates as well. But this year the dems seem to be moving away from the debate format completely.

Is that the woman who was claiming to be black then turned out she was as white as could be, just with a bad tan?
