Are there any incentives to even get married? I have friends who say "Hey, Boomer you're 30 now. Time to settle down!" What's the point?

Don't want kids. Been dating same girl for years.

Yes because married couples hate to see others happy. Jealous.

    Whats with the fatty?

Divorced guy here. So it's like asking the burn victim about the benefits of fire. Marriage is great until it aint'; and then its miserable and expensive to exit. But that ain't the question you asked, is it?

I think these days it is one part psychology--the "idea" that you are publicly declared to belong to one person (an "idea" that I will go ahead and say seems to mean more to the female species than the male species; but it is something special)--and one part financial--there are substantial financial benefits, from the obvious (married filing jointly on taxes) to the not obvious (speeds certain types of credit applications through; allows for certain legal protections when setting up title to property, buying life insurance, establishing asset trusts).

Was it worth it? Yes, but I didn't get cleaned in divorce court; and I think that's where most of the nonsense is.

I judge women on their personality so I'd have to see how she's acting since they were married - not what she looks like.

Not that I've thought this through, but why stay with someone for years if you don't want to marry her? Kids, that opinion can change, or not... just curious of the thought process.

The only logical answer to OP's question is if you're poor and the broad has money.

If you gave her any slack, she might try to eat it.

Does your girl want kids? That could be a problem if she does.

Pierce Brosnan obviously still really loves his wife. Says a lot about how 2 people can connect on another level.

I don't have to work. That's a good reason to be married.

Seriously, the real reason I married was for companionship. There are also incentives to being married when it comes to healthcare, taxes and other legal matters.

I've been asking this question for about 12 years now...just this last month i realized there are some odd Social Security death/survivor benefits directly tied to being married but that's it. Healthcare doesnt require marriage to be part of a "family plan" and taxes are hit or miss - a lot of the tables blatantly penalize married couples especially if both people make about the same amount. Its really a ceremony that people look to without thinking.
