I can all ready hear the Phish hate. Howard has never had any member of Phish or the Grateful Dead on his show. Why? He's certainly had lesser musical acts on. Why have none of them ever been on his show?

Phish, the Dead and Santana. They are noticeably absent. Almost every other successful( and some far less successful) musicians have been on.

Because they won't do a 20 minute cover of a Neil Young song.

Who says Phish would even want to be on? Do you ever see them doing much press besides the occasional Letterman? And even then - it's not long form interview.

Phish doesn't need the promotion Stern would provide. They'd pass. They'd be a boring interview to Stern. No one benefits.

Boring? A Heroin addicted singer, a drummer beat up by the Hell's Angles for taking pictures of a naked little girl, fans that are heavy drug users. You don't have to be Howard to think of 15 min. of interesting questions. I'd be interested. Why no members of the Grateful Dead in over 20 years? Why no Carlos Santana? Why no Neil Young? He's got some glaring absences in his musical interviews.

1.) Trey wasn't 'addicted' to Herion - he was into pills and had a brush with the law. Don't know if that's addition or not. Regardless - he wouldn't talk about that on Stern. Period.
2.) It was the bass player Mike Gordon, not the drummer, and he wasn't beat up. It was a misunderstanding. "Roughed up" if anything.
3.) So interview their fans. Why would interviewing the band Phish make that interesting?
4.)I think MANY other people and shows would have a great and interesting interview with Phish. Howard would not be one of those people. You just assume he's passing on these guests. Who says The Dead, Santana or Neil hasn't been asked 100 times and turned them down every time. I can almost guarantee that Neil has passed NUMEROUS times.
5.) I agree he has absences in his musical guests - that's because they don't want/care to be on.

Trey was heavily addicted to opiates. Heroin being one of them.

Thanks god Phish has never been on. A friend took me to a show in Philly 16 years ago. Worst concert I have ever been to. The smell of patchouli, songs that didn't end, people talking about the set list from last night, etc. thank god for the drugs.

The Dead were an extremely successful touring band. In their time, there were'nt many other bands who made their kind of money.

I think they simply didn't need the kind of promotion Howard provides.
