We bought a house, the house was listed as a "potential tear down and rebuild". It was a disaster but it is the dream area where we wanted to live, the property is great. So we buy the house, we apply for demolition. Take the plans to county and get a great deal of approval. We put a notice that the house will be demolished and a lady files a motion with the city to stop it. She tries to get the home put on a historical registry. Her great grandpa lived there. He was a soldier who fought in the civil war under Grant. Ok, she was denied the registry because he wasn't famous enough and the county denied her. She put another motion to be allowed to have a company come in and disassemble some of the house. It was beautiful at one time as it is rich in antique wood trim, crown molding etc. We agree. It takes her longer than she claimed to do this when they finally come in, it is her and her husband and brother in law. It appears the antique architecture she wanted was the copper flashing, copper valley on the roof, copper gutters, copper pipe and copper wire. Fine, I want to strangle this lady for all this waste of time but it is finally over, we can level and rebuild. Wrong. The contractor who took half the money down for materials and to start demolition has used all of our money on everything but us. He is in arrears to his subcontractors and for over a year now we have this place in the north suburbs where we want to move sitting there. We since haven't been able to sell our present house as we are still living here, paying taxes and payments on both while property values are stagnant. I have to go back to court again in two weeks and hopefully we can move forward as the contractor seems to have the funds to finish this. People suck.
