Hits had clever lyrics. Didn't really fit into a category very well.

They used to get a helluva lot of AirPlay on a a few stations down here on a couple of those records they put out during the late 90's.

I saw them play in front of 20K plus at a downtown festival gig during that era. Fun band. Shocked to see wiggers not into them though, given the spoken word vocals.

Cake was another forgettable entry in alt/grunge in the 90's.

Christ, there were so many awful bands. From Cake, to The Presidents Of The United States Of America, to Days Of The New (owners of the worst song ever made, "Touch, Peel and Stand"), so many bands were the epitome of "here today, gone later today".

Why wasn't Cake more popular? How about why wasn't Dokken more popular?
