I am a fairly new listener I started hearing the show just after Artie left unfortunately. Obviously after listening to many shows (Thanks to Todd Packer) it is no question the best era of the show was with Artie, in my opinion, I haven't listened to that many shows from Jackie's days, but Artie was just pure gold radio there was so much action and magic in the show, nowadays its like hearing your old aunt's and uncles talk, unbearable.

My MAIN question, after all of these years, I just don't get how could Stern shit all over his fans that gave him ALL his fortune ? And why is he still RELEVANT? There is so many sites online that talk about him everyday, who are old fans why are they still HOOKED? If I was a old fan I wouldn't waste any time on him!

Shit is very confusing I mean Stern didn't change after Jackie left, why after Artie?

Why? It reminds me of Richard Jeni explaining why anyone would watch Jaws 4

Cuz The Varvatos Emperor's endgame has always been mainstream acceptance!!!

He's an arrogant fuk who thought he could get it, too.

Because he won. He got the money he wanted, he got the trophy wife he wanted, and the mainstream acceptance he wanted.

He doesn't need his old fan base anymore.

We are not wasting our time on Stern except maybe to mock him and his whoresy which is for fun.
Most of the threads here are about something other than stern.

He got the big money and his priorities shifted to winning the approval of celebrities (why he wants that, I have no idea.)

I can relate a lot to you. I started listening around the same time as I would have been about 5 years old during the golden years of the early 90s. I suggest you keep listening to the TP collection. Explore Jackie, Gilbert, Kinison, Billy, but especially OJ trial discussion. The show's quicker pace back then is something to adjust to for sure. But I'm willing to bet you'll fall in love with it like me.

I remember when the Beatles broke up (I was 10 okay!). For years and years people wanted them to get back together.

Yes people bought and loved their individual stuff. But everyone still wanted them back together - to bring back the magic that once was. Lorne Michaels even made a running bit about it in the late 70's on SNL.

It's kind of like that. Those of us who were loyal for all those years feel abandoned and long for what once was.

It is weird, he's owes everything to his old core fan base but never bothers to acknowledge them.

Stern's problem is that he built his empire around a cross section of society that despised phoniness and hypocrisy. It was therefor inevitable that, once Wiggy started to embrace and adopt these traits, his core audience would begin to turn on him.

Now, whether Stern has always been a beta-boy, or just morphed into one after his divorce and the subsequent arrival of the Pittsburgh Conqueror, is a matter of much debate. But what's not in dispute is the fact that he's always been first and foremost about the marbles. So whether he was a fraud then or a fraud now, his original audience is nevertheless expendable to whatever degree they can come between him and his payday. As his recent stint with AGT proves, his loyalty is now with 12 year old girls, soccer moms and the LGBT community.

yea the best years are not with Artie. not even close and thats a scientific fact. late 80's thru a good chunk of the 90's. once gaesy SJ and jackie left the show was on a steady decline. artie helped bring some funny back but really wiggy and baba robin were beyond insufferable for most of the last 15 yrs.

    Schtarbuschs

you can't get high dollars sponsor ad jobs with his old image and q rating
Now you almost don't associate him with strippers, Porn stars or raunchy talk.
When you think of Howard Stern you think Jennifer Aniston vacations with him and he loves kittens and he's married to an all American blonde who he supports her in her conservative and saintly career/charity endeavors.
sure she looks hot in a bathing suit, but hot women love Howard Stern, he's a prince with the sensitivity of a underdog who champions kids that stutter and Mexican child singers.
you can't even remember stuttering john on the red carpet, bully famous women like Trump, or playing chicken noises while playing Penelope Cruz or Selma Hacker interview snipets

So how long it'll take for Stern presence in the media to fade away into obscurity? If most of the fans are getting to see the real image in a negative way I am sure eventually he'll fade away? Who's supporting him Jimmy Kimmel, stamos, etc? They aren't big enough to keep relevant in the near future.
