Holy shit, that shit is still around? Wow.

BTW, I stuck with Netscape as long as possible until I discovered FF.

    Now FF sucks. . . . sigh

Weird. I was looking some random fan-made website today that appeared like it had been abandoned and not updated in *at least* a decade. It had a couple of themed winamp skins for download and it caught my eye because up to seeing that page today I honestly hadn't seen, used or even thought about winamp in probably a decade either (I used to be a fan also).

So then following on from the experience of seeing & thinking about winamp for the first time in 10 years I suddenly read this thread just hours later? :tzone:

What can coincidence this mean? Most likely it means absolutely nothing whatsoever unfortunately!

I use it EVERYDAY on my phone to listen to the stupid show. It's part of my routine. It's been buggy yesterday and I've been annoyed, but other than that, reliable for stern show listening .

VLC player finally won the battle on my computer. I can't recall exactly when I stated using it, but I'd suspect it was what took over from winamp. So basically I've been using it for years and years and have never felt the need to change.

VLC looks like shit but I've never seen as good for just playing anything you throw at it.

there are others; winamp just couldn't compete against the flood of people using itunes, sonos, airplay, and the alternates for android. it was just too many different platforms that they didn't support, and too many people switching to those alternative platforms. i haven't checked but i bet they have issues running on Windows 8.1; not big issues but issues they will have to address without any chance of making any money from the efforts.

VLC originally pulled their app from iTunes in protest of Apple's policies. Very quietly, earlier this past summer VLC reappeared without any mention of their losing the battle against Apple: Apple fought dirty: Apple ignored VLC entirely and other vendors produced free products with the same functionality.

Tho WinAMP 5 sucks, I still use 2.9 on another machine. :jj:

The skins were the best, too. It's really too bad that AOL destroyed the program.
