This has been out for a couple of weeks but I haven't seen it mentioned here.

    http://www.zdnet.com/article/micros...to-windows-7-8-1-and-windows-phone-8-1-users/

The rumors were right: Microsoft is going to make Windows 10 available for free to users running Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 on their devices..........

..........Among the coming Microsoft universal applications in development are new People, Music, Maps, Photos, Calendar and Outlook applications..........

............Microsoft officials also demonstrated "Project Spartan," the new browser that Microsoft is building for Windows 10........

I have no idea what their strategy is in giving this away. It may be because it isn't worth paying for. We'll find out this fall, supposedly.

Yeah and the article mentions that the free upgrade will only be for a year after it is introduced. You'll basically be an Alpha tester for it.

Does it have the flat one dimensional look that Microsoft has decided to apply to everything?

I read they also restricted the bit size of taskbar icons. What's the plan here, to make an OS for mobile devices and apply it to a PC? Cuckoo.

Strategy might be a make nice gesture for people who bought their new PCs with Win 8, and hated it, and let everyone know about how much they hated the new programs screen, lack of a start button, lack of an X button to close Metro apps and the like. Maybe it'll help for patches? Instead of having to support 7, 8, 8.1 and 10, they can just support 10. I like(d) 8, but they did skew too much towards touch interfaces and had some non-intuitive touches that would make the average user miffed. If Win 8 had been an absolute homerun the Mac market wouldn't have had all the sales increases over the past two years that it did from people fleeing Windows.
