Richie Havens was great a Woodstock. I went to a reunion show in 1999 at Yasgur's Farm. It was all acts from the original. Leslie West, Country Joe, Richie Havens, Arlo, David Crosby, etc. Took a gel tab of LSD which was great, but I really could have used a doobie or 2 to take the edge off. It was so hot and humid that if you bought a beer at a stand, it was piss warm by the time you got to a decent spot to sit. So I went w/ bottled water after my first 2 beers. Beautiful venue for a concert though.
How many dirty hippies did you bone? Was the brown acid really that bad? Did anyone pay attention to Sha Na Na? You crash the gate, jump the fence or buy a ticket?
1. 0 2. was into thc which turned out to be some kind of horse tranquilizer 3. like the background music at a concert, before the group comes out 4. bought a 3 day ticket - I think it was $18 Havens was great. As were CSN
My oldest sister, who was 17, got within 20 miles, but ended up tripping her brains out for the next couple days with a bunch of strangers; which really pissed my folks off.
He was great even when he was old. At that reunion show he was one of the best performers, and when I saw him do a show in a bar in North Jersey he knocked it out of the park.
I read this last year http://www.amazon.com/Woodstock-James-Dagon/dp/1909526118qa It was pretty good. Especially Carlos Santana's story about tripping with Jerry Garcia; poor fucker thought he had hours to trip, but it ended up being mere minutes Of course, the set was epic; and Carlos never tripped again, after that. Freakin' Captain Trips
