My father was an electrical maintenance technician on the P-47 Thunderbolts in the 382nd Service Squadron of the 8th Army Air Corp from April 1942 to November 1945. He'll be 96 in a few weeks.

My dad was USAAF, stationed all over the western Pacific.

He flew in a Piper Cub taking meterolical readings.

He died in 2013. Today would have been his 94th birthday.

Sorry to hear about your dad. My dad was born on November 26, 1919

My dad is still doing well for his age, probably because he never smoked or drank. He always tells me that when he was stationed in Rheims, France another American unit near his captured a winery and each guy in his unit received 20 bottles of French champagne. Because my dad never drank he gave away his 20 bottles. He had more will power than I would have!

My dad was all over; New Guineas, Philippines etc....sadly, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2000, and finally succumbed to it in2013.

I am happy for you and your dad. Talk about a gift. He sounds like a great guy.
