Holy Shit- How have I never heard of this shit? Me and my wife are sitting here laughing our collective ass off. Goddamn- this shit is brillliant!!
that was the last one we watched before crashing...plus...it was late & I was getting all hyper and shit due to how ingenious the writing and acting in these clips are and my wife wanted me up today before noon. It's SCTV calibre comedy with an amazing sense of what made radio suck for so many years. Shit that in fact sucked the joy out of music for me entirely for almost a decade. Don't know who's behind these Hollywood Steve recaps of "soft rock" history but damn... somebody obtain for him/them/her a grant to sponsor more of this wonderful nonsense.
I cried when Koko died. Hey, Low -what's the back story on these productions? I can't find shit about "Yacht Rock". Did it air on tv or is it an internet thing? Who are geniuses behind it? Shameful admission time: until these clips, I never knew that Loggins had teamed with Michael McDonald to produce all that soft rock excreta. I was working for a record distributor when this shit came out. I never looked at the albums... or the singles I'd pull for record store orders, I just looked this shit up by label release numbers and avoided the radio in those days. You realize of course that during the time these assholes dominated the air-waves, The Ramones' 1st two albums went fucking NOWHERE... Brinsley Schwarz was ignored... Other great releases by folks like the Flamin' Groovies were completely ignored as was Pere Ubu, Funkadelic, 10cc, Bob Dylan's STREET LEGAL, Buzzcocks, Captain Beefheart, Big Star's amazing and legendary SISTERS/LOVERS and goddamned on and on and on and on and fucking on and such as.
Hey Rick -- the Wiki page gives a good background on Yacht Rock: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yacht_Rock A friend introduced me to it a couple of years ago and it's stood up to multiple, multiple, multiple viewings. Like you, I didn't know beforehand about all the incestuous musical connections the provide much of Yacht Rock's fodder.
