I had a boss at age 70 found a small town he liked and said he was going to retire there. He started the paperwork bought a little piece of land and started the process. He was dead before the paperwork was complete,
i read a sci fi book when i was in my teens. in the story a guy searched the universe to find the most intelligent being. he wanted to ask it a question. after a bunch of wacky adventures, he finally finds this being and asks - why is it that we are born only to suffer and die?
the supreme being said - why not?
i've been clear about life ever since.

a real nasty first sgt in the air force retired after fucking with people for 30 years. a few weeks later he was mowing his lawn and dropped dead. we mostly didn't laugh but he was a real dick so...
