"Nicknamed Yuka, this female mammoth was discovered in Russia. The mummified body of the young 39,000-year old well-preserved woolly mammoth was found in the Siberian permafrost is the only mostly intact mammoth with brain included.[/b]

Cause of Death: "Daniel Fisher's team from the University of Michigan suggested that Yuka may have survived an attack by a now-extinct cave lion, with left scars on her skin. Similar lion attacks on baby elephants can be observed in Africa, and the incisions match up.

But despite getting lucky once, Yuka did not manage a later escape, and a broken leg, and a series of unhealed bites indicates that she might have been pursued in the moments before her death."

Nicknamed Lyuba, this mammoth died 42,000 years ago at the age of 30-35 days.

Cause of death: From stomach contents, is seems she died from "mud suffocation" as she was probably bogged down in deep mud and struggled because of her young age.

40,000 years ago, but it's still sad to think that little fella died drowning in a mud pit, attempting to escape from a predator.
