    http://www.indystar.com/story/sport...2-patriots-footballs-under-inflated/22089889/

Sources told ESPN late Tuesday that 11 of 12 footballs used by the New England Patriots against the Indianapolis Colts last weekend were under-inflated by 2 pounds of air (psi).

The Patriots defeated the Colts 45-7 Sunday night to earn a spot in the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks.

NFL officials didn't comment. A source said the league was "disappointed ... angry ... distraught" over the under-inflated balls.

Part of the investigation that still needs further vetting is how the 11 footballs became under-inflated. The balls are required be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch and weigh between 14 and 15 ounces.

An under-inflated ball would be easier for a quarterback to grip in inclement weather, and there was heavy rain and wind in the second half. However, the Patriots' LeGarrette Blount rushed for three touchdowns against the Colts.

I dislike the Patriots as much as the next guy but please.... such a non-story.

The Colts would not have won that game under any circumstances.

However now the Seahawks will have the majority of the country rooting for them at the Super Bowl. :giggle:

Please. It's not like it was 12 out of 12.

Unbelievable that they thought they could get away with it.

I bet they used that one good ball for most of the game.

That one was used for punts.

On an unrelated note, I heard on the radio today that the field goal ball that Romo fumbled back in 2006 against the Seahawks was altered to make it very slick. I suspect we'll be hearing more about that shortly.

Note: back in 2006, the home team supplied all of the balls, so the Seattle Ball boys gave them the ball for the field goal attempt.

I agree with Nan that the outcome wasn't changed by the balls. Although the score might have been different and a lot of gambling wins and losses could have been different. A lot of fantasy games could have been different too. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Ok, so let me see if I have this correct. The Patriots were up 17-7 at halftime with the "deflated" footballs, Tom Brady was 11-21 passing (52%), 1 TD and 1 INT. The footballs were changed at the beginning of the 2nd half and where supposedly properly inflated, the Patriots outscored the Colts 28-0 and Tom Brady was 12-14 passing (86%), 2 TD's and 0 INT's. Makes perfect sense to me.

Hmmm. Maybe the Colts deflated the balls. The Patriots played much better once they got the proper ones.

    This makes me sad.
Not because I didn't know that Belichick was a cheater but because I thought Brady wasn't.

Actually it came from a former player who played for Kansas City and had never played for either the Cowboys or the Seahawks. It's not something that Cowboy fans here really worry about. It was 2006.

    A) I don't think you'll find anyone who will argue that it cost the colts the game.
    B) I didn't see any articles that said they used proper balls during the second half. In fact, how could they have? The NFL took the balls and checked them afterward.

    Lastly, who got owned? :dontknow:

You must be a Patriots fan. I know it hurts to hear that your team cheats.

Edit: I finally found an article that said that the refs found them at half time. I still don't understand this post.

I can't find anywhere where they were given "good" balls at halftime.
