I was at Madison Square Garden for game 7 in a skybox(fathers friend's) and remember a kid, the deffining sound at MSG when Mark Messier hoisted the cup @1:41 like it was yesterday. My father waited for such a long time for the Rangers to win that cup because the Islanders(who I can't hate) dominated for a long time. That place was just a loud party and as a kid, it was too much to take in haha! I can close my eyes to this day, and hear that night. I ended up skating on that same MSG ice years later.
*edit* And thank God my father was around to see it!*

What's everyone else's most poignant sports memory as a kid?

I still play "The Best" by Tina Turner on my Ipod when I'm on the ice with the boys working on out the knees. ;)

How many people have actual memories of their own sports activities? Remembering someone else's sports team events just means you didn't play on any teams.

C'mon that's wrong. I played at MSG on a professional team(believe it or not), even if it was a for short time, but my question WAS about your "childhood" memory. Nothing wrong with remembering a sports memory that made you feel great as a child.
