220-person federal agency made oil paintings of 17 top staffers
A federal agency that provides mediation services between companies and unions spent $3,867 on an ice maker for its office, $300 for a coffee pot and pays monthly bills for satellite TV for its office.

Paintings of 17 past managers of the 220-employee Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service hang in the office, and the agency spent $2,402 in 2013 because of an "additional request for portrait retouching for Scot Beckenbaugh," an FMCS deputy who merely served as acting director for one year.

"They were actual artwork portraits," said former FMCS employee Tanya Pelcher-Herring. "These people got their portraits done like they were reigning kings or something. One portrait of a former director included his dog. In my 20 plus years of federal service, I've never seen anything like it before."

The agency also paid $1,325 for five pairs of headphones, $625 for a "diversity video," and $1,700 each for multiple employees to attend a "Social Media in Government Conference."

Nothing will ever top the military industrial complex for waste of tax money. We spent $500 million dollars on planes for the Afghan Air Force that they didn't know how to fly. They wound up as $32,000 dollars worth of scrap metal. We spent $500 thousand dollars on an adobe style Afghan police training center that melted because it rained. If you don't believe me, look it up.

Wasn't he elected on "change", one would think change that everyone would agree with is the elimination of governmental waste from little shit agencies like this one all the way to the defense department like "Humongous" mentioned.

I'm not shocked. I'm just not shocked. They don't audit, they don't hold administration accountable. Anything goes. Thanks Obama.

$27 million for Moroccan pottery classes, that sounds like a deal.

I can understand the $750,000 for a soccer field at Gitmo, the soldiers will need something to do now that we're sending the terrorists back home to their countries.

It doesn't seem to matter who is in office. Everyone has their pet projects that they think are indispensable. If you represent the district that manufactures useless planes that can't fly in the rain, you still want money appropriated to build those useless planes because it creates jobs.

Not So Spartan: Pentagon Spends A Half Billion Dollars On Italian Aircraft For Afghanistan That Will Now Be Junked
What is interesting is that, as with previous stories of wasteful purchases of Russian and Italian aircraft, the 20 G222s (C-27A) — military transport aircraft built in Italy — did not even bring money to U.S. companies or jobs to U.S. citizens. We then spent rough $500 million to refurbish the foreign aircraft that would never fly.

The Defense Department in 2008 set out to give the G222s (C-27A) to the Afghans and contracted with Alenia Aermacchi North America. It then spent $486 million on the program but, due to negligent management, the planes flew only 234 of the 4,500 “required hours” and another $200 million would be needed to buy the outstanding spare parts. However, some of those parts were described as “unavailable.” The Pentagon then killed the contract and decided to go with “alternate aircraft.”

Lt. Gen. Charles Davis, top acquisition official in the U.S. Air Force, now says that the planes were never particularly well suited for the environment and will likely have to be “destroyed and moved out of the country.”

Whats crazy is there is NO accountability! !!!

Lets just say NASA gets 100 billion for 2015.....they have to spend that to get that kind of money again. There is NO reward for coming in under budget.
Its mind boggling! In the private sector you wouldn't survive with project management like that.

CBO said in 2000 we were on track to pay off the entire Nat Debt by 2010.

It's fairly amazing how R's keep the 'fiscally responsible' lie going forever.
