Rosenthal: Greinke reaches $206M deal with Diamondbacks
AP UPDATED: Dec 5, 2015 at 2:43a ET

Zack Greinke will still pitch in the NL West. But — surprise! — with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The D-backs beat out the division rival Dodgers and Giants to unexpectedly win the Greinke sweepstakes Friday night, acquiring the free agent ace they hope will get the franchise contending again with a six-year, $206.5 million deal, sources told FOX Sports MLB insider Ken Rosenthal.

The major league ERA leader and runner-up for the NL Cy Young Award helped lead the Dodgers to their third straight division title this season. Then, the 32-year-old righty opted out of his contract, leaving $71.5 million on the table — and wound up with the richest deal, by yearly average, in baseball history.

Yeah, I pay a monthly fee to the YES network to help pay for a team I fucking hate. Some day I'll figure out a system to cut out cable and still get to watch stuff I like.

ZG was robbed of the CY this year. And teams know going in, the last 1-2 years are dead money.

these teams are making so much money that some of them are ok with getting fucked on the back 1/4 of these deals

you're not getting the big guys by managing a team and it's finances like you're involved in a normal business

    I looked it up
that roof -4.5 minutes to close and it costs $2-3 to do it
    that's interesting

I still didn't think he would get more than 175 for 6, lot of risk for an aging pitcher.

Jake Arrieta was with my Orioles for a few years, we couldn't get rid of him fast enough. Shows how well we deal with talent.

Heard the Os were interested in ZG. No way our owner would touch that kinda money.

    Good luck Diamond Backs.

    A baseball player's prime is ages 28-32.

And the Diamondbacks are paying him $34 million a year for the next six years.

    Suckers!

Watch him go 4-12 with a 6.50 ERA next year.
