MPC seems to really suck lately. It obviously can't handle 720 or 1080, but also seems to fuck up regular movies too. Anyone hear anything about problems?

VLC plays just about anything, I stopped WMP all together.

I gotta say VLC really has made WMP a thing of the past for me. WAY less of a cpu hog and not finicky at all about what it will play.

As always, if it's a codec issue, get the Klite Codec pack from a trust worthy site. Every codec you will ever need.

Not at all. As a matter of fact there are som efiles (uncompressed BGR and a few 720p mkv) that it will play that VLC won't. make sure you have the most recent version. It has been updated since theoriginal.

Have you installed anything lately? Anything that would screw with your aud/vid codecs? Or do a windows update?

New VLC released this morning. Up to 1.1.4

and just to repeat myself, if you update MPC to the most recent, it's just as reliable as VLC. For me anyway....

The smart thing is to have several players at the ready. Many times I've sat down to play a wacky torrent of some kind and had to go through 3 or 4 players before everything finally played correctly.
