Toto and Brian Eno did the soundtrack. I like the soundtrack better than the movie itself. One of my favorites.

I loved it. But, you need to have read the book to make sense of that mess. I read the book and I was a little confused at times.

another book that is probably impossible to squeeze into a 2 hour movie. it hits the beats, but has to leave out most of the connective narratives of the book. its ok, ambitious but flawed. i cannot imagine watching it without having read the original book first.

The books would make a great series ... like Westworld or Game of Thrones.

I think it's on Prime too, or at least it was last month.

Anyway, it sucks. This genre is not for Lynch. The remake sounds promising though.

I started a thread a while back about another filmmaker who was going to tackle Dune. Documentary and everything (with links to video). Roots in Alien and Geiger too so a lot of this stuff is interrelated.

Check it out if fans of any of the above (but don't post in it). I found it all fascinating having read the book and seeing the Lynch movie a long time ago

It turns out that Ridley Scott was originally offered the opportunity to make Dune, but opted instead to make Blade Runner. Also it is said that the studio insisted the maximum length of the movie be 2 hours 17 minutes, meaning they wouldn't miss any possible showings in theaters. The first cut of the movie ran over four hours so it was edited and re-edited to get down to the required time. No wonder its a mess.

David Lynch was brilliant, even when his movies didn't all the way come together. Then he went all the way off the deep end. But his early work stands strong.
Signatures: soundtracks with industrial sounds, and stuff that oozes and extrudes.
