    If you mean slotted screws, they do not strip as easily as Philips head screws, so you can use more torque power with them. But they are a pain in the ass to screw in by hand or by drill.
    You always end up slipping and gouging out the wood around the screw.

    Almost all the wood screws I've bought lately are Torx.

    They do give you a bit though so you don't have to buy one separately.
