Gotta disagree with you there. Based on Beth's Instagrams I think Howard is on a prescription cocktail that takes all his negative emotions out of his system.

I think the bitter end is going to be Beth fleeing with Howard's body and fighting with the Stern daughters over the Estate. Think Casey Kasem.

Howard isn't divorcing her. She is his beard, he needs to be married to quell rumors hes a flaming homo.

    No

Howard is a mama's boy. He always has to have a female authority figure bossing him around busting his balls

    Back Story:
Since moving from a driving job to a desk job in 1999, I've been listening to shows chronologically (at a snail's pace). I am now up to October 24, 2001 and have stumbled on another quote where Stern talked about marriage between his divorce and his engagement to Beth. Again, I'm not out to call him a hypocrite or liar. I'm not trying to chastise him. I'm not trying to bust his balls. I'm not trying to say he should or shouldn't have gotten remarried. I just find it interesting. If you look earlier in this thread, you'll find more quotes like this.

    October 24, 2001
Bob Saget: "Does your girlfriend have a job?"
    Howard: "Yeah."
Bob Saget: "And she's happy with it?"
    Howard: "Yeah."
Bob Saget: "You don't feel like she's sucking off of you?"
Howard: "No, she's never asked me for a dime. I mean, she works and does her thing every day."
Bob Saget: "If you stay together for seven years, she would be entitled to half (of) that dime. She would get a nickel."
Robin: "Well, are you living together?"
Howard: "No. I would never live with anyone again. I will never, ever marry again."
    Bob Saget: [indecipherable]
Howard: "No, no, no. I just wouldn't live with anyone anymore. I wanna live on my own. Y'know, I'd live with my kids if they..."
Bob Saget: "I enjoy living on my own."
    ...
Howard: "Would you ever get married again?"
Bob Saget: "I can't imagine it now, but I'd fall in love. If I'm able to do that again. I don't know if I ever will. I would like to. Wouldn't you? Oh, you are. Are you in love?"
Howard: "Yes, but I would never get married again because I'm not sure I understand why."
Robin: "Then you're not 'madly' in love." (laughs)
Bob Saget: "What if she wants to get married?"
Howard: "It doesn't matter. We've had that discussion. She claims she doesn't want to be married, and I don't want to be married, certainly. I've done that."

more howard quotes about marriage while he was dating beth....

    November 2, 2001
John Stamos: "But you tell every poor guy that comes on here, 'Don't get married! Don't get married! Don't get married!'"
Howard: "Don't get married! I still subscribe to that. I think marriage is bogus. Why do you need to get married? Why did you need to be married?"
John Stamos: "Because I'm madly in love!"

    November 14, 2001
Caller: "Will you ever marry your girl?"
Howard: "I have said this many times. No, I don't wanna ever get married again. I'm not a marriage guy."
Gary: "I believed that until the way I heard you talk to her on the air. And, I mean, you really talk to her very lovingly."
Howard: "I do. I'm in love with her. I think she's great. But I'm not gonna get married. And she knows that. And she tells me she doesn't want to get married ever in her life and she doesn't want to, y'know, have kids. And maybe that will change for her one day..."
Robin: "All right. After you're together twelve years, will you just go ahead and get married?"
    Caller: "Yes."
Howard: "No, I don't want to be married ever again."
Robin: "Just think about it. If you're with somebody for twelve years..."
Howard: "No, I don't see a reason to be married. I don't understand why go through the embarrassing ceremony."
Robin: "...and you're never gonna leave them. Why wouldn't you do it?"
Howard: "Because I'm never gonna have kids again. I'm not going to get married for the sake of being married. I can be in a relationship without being married. I no longer believe in having a ceremony and being married."
Robin: "I think you're gonna be like David Brenner."
Howard: "No. I don't think so."
Artie: "What if she wanted to? Would you let her go then?"
    Howard: "Yeah."
    Robin: "Not after twelve years."
Howard: "Whatever. If she said she needed to be married- We've had this discussion. I'm not saying anything out of school."
Robin: "People change and I don't necessarily know that women tell the truth all the time in those situations."
Howard: "Robin loves to argue with me about this, but I know me better than Robin."
    Robin: "No you don't."
Gary: "No, no, no. I think you know you too, but I think Robin's point is well-taken that, y'know, you may not change over the period of time but maybe she will."
Howard: "All right, I believe the question was directed toward me: 'Will you get married again?' I said no. Go ahead."
Robin: "And I'm just giving you some scenarios where I'm asking if you'd change your mind in those situations."
Howard: "It's not necessary to be married."

Wouldn't a divorce already have happened? They've been together for what? 15 years or something.

On the other hand, I'm starting to see, kind of , that the endgame is that Howard is gay, Beth is a beard and Howard is only waiting for his parents to pass before he'll come out of the closet. Then, he'll probably call in the pre-nup with Beth.

    Replying to myself to add:

If Wiggy is gay and is closeted, it would explain why he estranged himself from his daughters. He didn't want them to know.

It always struck me as particulary mean of Howard what he did to his daughter knowing he knew what effect an absent father would be. Before he moved to Manhattan, he would ask every stripper, every porn star when that person's father divorced their mother. He knew the ramifications and he did it anyway. He's either a monster or a closeted homosexual.

I hate to give Hoard a pass on anything, but...

Everyone of my friends who were going through divorce adamantly proclaimed "I'm never getting married again. Never!!!" Everyone of them got remarried within 5 years of the divorce.

A few years ago they did discuss having a baby before her eggs dried up, I think they almost did but it was Howard that changed his mind she went along with it, but I think she really wanted a baby.

Howard shooting Beth down on having a kid really fucked their marriage up. Most people get sick of eachother after 5 years but put their differences aside at least partially once babies get involved

    IF......

...that is, in fact, true, here is a good quote from the show I'm currently listening to (11/16/2001).

A woman named Marie brought three women in for Howard to potentially date (despite the fact he's already been dating Beth at this point).

Marie: "How old is your girlfriend, the one you're dating? In her twenties?"
    Howard: "Thirty."
Marie: "(long pause) She does not want any children? Thirty-year-old woman."
Howard: "She does not want children."
Marie: "This is what she's telling you."
Howard: "This is what she's telling me."
Gary: "Yeah, we're not buying it either, Marie."
Howard: "You don't have to buy it or not. She says that to me."
Robin: "It's not always a choice..."
Marie: "Everybody knows that, from listening to you. These women [she brought in] do not want any more children. You do not have to worry that, God forbid one of them were to get pregnant..."
Howard: "Erin, you don't want any more children?"
    Erin: "No. Absolutely not."
Robin: "Do they all have children?"
[discussion about the girls already having children]
Marie: "They don't want any more. The one you're dating has not had children yet. One day this woman is gonna want a child."
    Howard: "I don't know how I feel about step-children."
[discussion about not wanting a girlfriend who already has a child]
Howard: "You didn't do a good enough job that I would leave my girlfriend. Had you brought someone in here..."
Robin: "If you really had his soul mate there, he'd have to leave his girlfriend."
Marie: "He's making a big mistake with this girl - too young..."
    Howard: *scoffs*
    Robin: *laughing*
Marie: "...She has had no children. I don't care what she's- I saw the girl."
Howard: "Where did you see my girlfriend?"
    Marie: "I did my research..."

And here's a follow-up tidbit about Marie that hit the news three months after her appearance on Stern...

Matchmaker Cuts Husband In Bar, Arrest Record Says
Marie Massa Of Debary Drew The National Spotlight By Saying She Would Find Howard Stern A Wife.
