The doorman story is and has always been radio bullshit.

Beth had gone as deep into the Summers Farkas and Co Hamptons ladies who lunch club as a GF could get. You need to be an actual wife (or ex wife) to break into that inner circle.

Wiggy relented to marry her after she was shut out of a few Hamptons functions that GFs (that come and go in that set) that she was dying to go to.

No doorman in a building as swanky as Manhattan's Millenium Tower would ever disrespect anyone going up to the 54th floor on a regular basis. Especially after she moved in.

I dunno if this is the same story but Howard said on air when a caller asked why he married Beth that he was tired of people like the doorman treating her like he was his gf and not wife

Just seems like an odd response. Usually the response is “I love her” yada yada

    Back Story:
Since moving from a driving job to a desk job in 1999, I've been listening to shows chronologically (at a snail's pace). As I progress through the year 2002, I found another interesting conversation about marriage. Again, I'm not out to call Stern a hypocrite or liar. I'm not trying to chastise him. I'm not trying to bust his balls. I'm not trying to say he should or shouldn't have gotten remarried. I just find it interesting. If you look earlier in this thread, you'll find more quotes like this.

    February 28, 2002
Caller: I was reading this magazine Cool Hand, and they have a list of celebrities and the odds of them getting married in 2002 and you're on the list.
    Robin: What are his odds?
    Caller: Two to one.
    Howard: Of what?
Caller: Getting married in this year.
Howard: Aw, hell. I'll take that bet. I ain't getting married. I don't believe in marriage. I told you that. I believe in dating. I believe in having a relationship. I do not believe in marriage. That's it. It's over. It's over, Johnny.
Caller: Well, you can make double your money.
    ...
Howard: I was talking to a friend of mine and she said, "You're really happy with your girlfriend" and I said, "Yeah, I really am. We just got back from Anguilla. We had a great time together. It was so much (fun)- I loved it, buh-buh-buh-buh-buh. It was great." She goes, "I'm so jealous." I go, "You're married and you've got three kids." She goes, "Yeah, there's no romance. There's nothing. There's nothing ... Oh my god, I'm so jealous." I just said- Well, I said, "It's because you're married."
    Robin: You've got kids.
Stuttering John: I don't think you're getting married either.
    Howard: No. (mumbles)
Artie: I'm gonna go to the gas station tonight and try to put money on you.
    ...
Howard: You're gonna win a lot of money.
Stuttering John: What should the odds be. I'll say twenty to one.
    ...
Howard: Twenty to one? Ten million to one!

    FAST FORWARD TO 2019...

Oct 10, 2019 - On Wednesday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the radio host explained that he had been wanting to remarry his wife of 11 years, Beth Stern...
