I kinda like the idea of electronic balls and strikes.

Didn't Real Sports on HBO do a story on this and discover live home plate umpires are wrong 20% of the time.

    Twenty percent!!

It's weird to think about, but it makes sense to have a more automated approach than a human with limited visibility.

Will there still be a home plate umpire for tags at the plate, I assume?

I would miss this part of baseball if they removed the umpires.

I believe the automated balls and strike calls are relayed to the home plate umpire. I can't remember how it was done on the HBO piece.

I won't miss home plate umpires with varying strike zones.

Per the baseball rulebook, the strike zone size changes with the height of the player. How will the automated version factor in the height difference between say, Aaron Judge and Jose Altuve?

Valentine is a good manager but he needs to be with a younger team full of players he can mold. The Red Sox roster he had was a bunch of aging veteran roiders

Grew up in Philly, been living in Northern California for 22 years 10 minutes south of San Francisco. As a Phillies fan Im happy as hell they had a solid team and added Harper how can that be bad?
The way I see it is if a team wants a player they can make it happen no matter their situation. Truth be told I wish he signed with the Giants I dont give a shit what anyone says they have plenty of dough and it would have been exciting to see him in a Giants uniform.
The Dodgers didnt get him, that's a good thing.

    Some seem good .

    Firm trading deadline July 31st.
Expanding roster. But max 28 player roster for Sept call ups.

    3 batter minimum seems dumb.

they already do it. Look at any ESPN or Fox broadcast. They alter the box per player.

But I'm actually pretty sure they already "officially" do it. I believe I recall reading that baseball already electronically calls balls and strikes, and gives each umpire a report after the game on percent of balls and strikes missed, which ones they were, how far they were off, etc... We just never get to see that data because of the umpire's union. I believe they agreed to it only if it was kept private.

I could be off on that, but I completely remember reading more than one story about it.
