I’m glad I decided to see The Stones last week in DC. I almost bought tickets for the New Orleans show. They had to cancel their show at the Jazz Fest in May, so they added a date at the Superdome when they rescheduled the tour. That show is supposed to happen this Sunday night. It’s still on as of now and the stage is being built, but who the fuck knows what will happen over the next couple days?

we should have let that area flood decades ago. the rioting would have been over by now.

we need to be able to move oil and boats in the area, we don't need the chocolate city.

    and i love jazz! :grad:

This is way off subject of New Orleans flooding but if you are really into Tiki Bars and you havent been to San Francisco I would suggest going and visiting https://www.tongaroom.com/ located at the Fairmont Hotel. The Hotel is super swanky but the Tiki Bar is really cool complete with artificial lake, island for the band, and rainstorms.

Yes that place is great. Went there about 5 years ago. The band played on the boat in the artificial lake. Was very cool.

All I want to add is that before I ever visited the place, I always wondered, "Why do they bother rebuilding after a hurricane; why dont they just let that shithole sink." Its not portrayed well to the rest of the country.

After my first visit, I literally had some sort of emotional outburst similar to a really good random hook-up with a strange woman at a bar that you end up really liking and making a life with later. "Love at first sight" is too stupid and cliche. Even with rising ocean levels, I hope we can somehow find the thousands of trillions of dollars it will take to preserve this place.

I was told by a black resident after Katrina that the occasional disaster in NO is needed to clean the place up. The brashness of him telling me that made my jaw drop. He said it was God's will that some people will die and it's just the way it is.

Record flooding on the Mississippi river NOW. When the rain from this hurricane gets there N O is going to be once again, fucked.

There are a lot of weirdly religious people down there, but for some reason I still love it. Maybe because the brand of Christianity they're peddling is mixed with a healthy dose of voodoo and alcoholism.

Yep all the mid western flooding is heading south to the gulf now. The water was noticeably higher along I-10 on Wednesday. It could get bad.

NOAA has approximately 256 monitors along the river in the region and 5 are reporting "flood" conditions currently. I dont know that any are near records.

If it floods as bad as it did last time during Katrina, I think it’s time to just abandon ship. NO is just a cereal bowl where all the water just pours in. They had a chance to fix it right but all they really did was stick a band aid on the problem. The Swedes tried to show em how to really fix the problem but the Army Core of Engineers are stubborn as fuck.

mississippi river flood stage at Memphis is 34' it was 35.5' on the 5th and has fallen to 29.9' today with the NWS forecasting a steady drop to 19' by the end of the month. theres plenty of capacity in the river, NOLA will catch it just like always with storm surge pushing lake ponchetrain

I really thought that ACE would have waited a few years and then applied the Swede ideas so as to save face but I guess they just forgot.
