    Just some thoughts.......

What if we end up getting no real answers and what happened/happens remains as some
sort of ongoing/endless mystery lost in and over time.
Would viewers accept it and move on?

What if what actually went on became/becomes known to Hays....but he can no longer remember
the information and it all becomes lost somewhere in his melted/melting mind.
Would viewers accept it and move on?

Like the stupid ending of the Sopranos?

It has to be resolved we don't know these characters that well.

I think Hays’ daughter ends up getting killed/taken by the Hoyt family. There’s clearly something going on with her that they are hiding from him, the scene at the dinner table really seemed to hint at it. And they’ve never shown her as an adult. I wonder if that is what caused him to break.

I have to say I’m expecting a “come to Jesus” moment between Hays and Hoyt in 1990.
If no answers are given, then most of the clues/info shared will have to be the possible solution. It’s won’t be bookended but they did divulge main suspects the last two episodes.

I seem to read a lot of negative comment about Amelia (Hays’ wife) and that she is a borderline sociopath who uses Hays and this case to make a name for herself. Her flirting for info, latching onto Hays, etc.
I partially agree w that theory, but don’t see her as that cold. Manipulative...yes.

As for Rebecca (Hays’ daughter) I think she is continuing her mother’s work, but there is also some lingering dread about her fate.
    Hope Sunday delivers w answers.

If so, its well after 1990 or not at all.
We saw a visibly older Hays drop her off at college by himself in ep 7.
No sign of her brother or mom either in that scene.

Was it a dream or flashback?

Oh fuck you’re right. Yeah that doesn’t make sense then. I completely forgot about that.

There just has to be something going on with daughter.

The teaser text for the finale episode states that the truth regarding the Purcell case will become known.

...but it does not say anything about exactly whom it might possibly be becoming known to.

Maybe just to the viewing audience?...and not to all or some of the characters involved in the story?

FYI.....the finale episode airing tonight will have a longer running time than the previous seven episodes.

It is scheduled for 1 hour and 19 minutes. (9pm - 10:19pm ET) (79 minutes.)

I am expecting quite a bit to possibly be happening in that final extra 19 minutes.

    The case/the girl (Julie Purcell).

..and the situation(s) with Hays' wife....if that even is any type of real/actual situation.
(...and Hays' daughter...possibly all related..or possibly not related.)

Maybe a few of the related deaths..the mother...Cousin Dan.

Maybe Hays' continuing mental deterioration...and his possible death/suicide. (..the gun in the draw.)

    Mr. June's involvement.
    The Hoyt family related stuff.
    The documentary..and the film makers.

    I could live with that.
I don't need all of the answers...just enough to suffice.

Interesting ending. Bad guys aren't that evil and good guys aren't that good.

Did I miss what happened to Hays' wife? Everything else got somewhat wrapped up.

Agreed...not sure why they didn't provide some answers there. I've grown to love that woman.

eh that was quite boring tbh. the two main detectives personal lives just weren't strong enough to carry this season

Big reveals and matter of fact explanations that were less shocking and almost seem acceptable in this seasons whodunit fever dream.
With both time and obstructive power long since passed, the answers came fast and w reasonable finality in this last episode.

Interesting ending(s) and some elements to the story that don’t quite let this season truly say case closed.
Hay’s son saving the scrap of paper is unsettling and its hard to say what he’ll do w it. Investigate it and come to the conclusion his father solved/forgot or pass it on to the tv show interviewer...?

Not sure why the dude they killed would have held on to that secret so hard.

The story was ok, id watch another season. Ali and Dorff were excellent and the makeup and costumes were great too.

    Money and murder...just for starters.
That guy appeared to have had some strange games going on inside his head.
